Question about 1992 Honda Accord

1 Answer

I replaced my transmission and the transmission computer in my 92 Honda accord. The car drives great for about five minutes until it heats up and then it gets stuck and won't go any where? What now?

Can you describe "gets stuck" a little better?

Can year hear the engine rev and the car doesn't move or does it feel like the brakes are stuck?

I can hear the engine rev and the car doesn't move. I can turn it off and sit for a minute and it will drive for a short distance

SOURCE: 92 honda accord camber adjustment

There is no no camber or caster adjustment on that model. If the car has been in an accident, chances are something is bent. My experience has been that the shock body and/or the steering knuckle is bent. Parts replacement is the only true fix. If the vehicle has had the ride height altered, ie. lowering springs, then there are adjustable upper control arms and ball joints available. These do generally only address the camber angle, not caster, which can also greatly affect handling. hope this helps.

SOURCE: Transmission control module, 92 honda accord

It's under the carpet on the passenger's side floor board. There's two boxes under the access panel, I think the TCM is the one on the right? If your's is broken there are probably a couple of capacitors and a resistor that are fried and need to be replaced.

SOURCE: inatallation 92 honda accord power steering pump

Hey, here's the procedure, disable air bag, if equipped w/ one, disconnect the pump return hose from the reservoir and place the end in a large container. Plug the port in the reservoir. Start the engine and turn the steering wheel lock to lock several times, until fluid stops running from the hose. Turn off engine immediately. Re-attach hose. Disconnect the inlet and outlet hoses at the pump. Remove the drive belt. Remove the mounting bolts/nuts and remove pump.
Install in reverse order. Adjust belt tension, fill ps reservoir and bleed any air from the system (to bleed air from system, fill reservoir, start engine and allow to idle, turn wheel from side to side all the way several times. Shut off, fill if necessary.
. Tighten bolts to : Thru bolt 30 ft lbs., mounting nut 16 ft lbs.

I don't understand "drive cycle". You can clear the codes by unhooking the battery for 5 minutes then repowering.

Common problems with 92 honda 5 speed

A/C Problem usuallyabout 200,000 miles (specifically high pressure hose leaks and compressor clutch usually within 30,000 miles of the hose going.)
At about 250,000 miles or so the main relay goes usually at about 290,000 Torque convertor in Automatic Transmission starts to slip.. Manual tranny can't say too much there depends on how you drive . replace clutches at every 50K or at 150K depends on driver. The cat and the mufflers usually go at abot 190,000 give or take (depends how much water you drove threw). Lastly fast idle cam valve about every 120,000. As you can see this is a great car to own.

Cost for switching from a manual to an automatic

The cost of the transmission, the sensors, new computer, and a center console -- not mentioning the labor of having a professional do it. Well over 1,000 to 1,500. That's a great deal of work you're talking about.

92 honda accord lx D4 flashes

you have a transmission fault the D4 light blinks to tell you that there is a transmission problem when the light is blinking the transmission computer put the transmission into limp home mode so it will not shift normally and you should try not to drive it very far when it gets to this stage you need to have the transmission codes check to pin point the problem

Might need to swap over the computer as well if it indeed has one.

I see a few troubleshooting issues tho.
