Question about 2002 Ford SVT Focus

1 Answer

Ford Taurus 2002 Ford Taurus wagon. 102,000 mi. past two years, unpredictable: anti-theft will start blinking when I insert key. I start engine. Engine starts but when in I put car in gear, car won't go. Device causes car to stall. Repeated attempts to drive, same: will not go. Wait at least two hours and starts fine-- no more problem. Has happened at least a dozen times. At first had car towed. By the time mechanic looked at it mechanic could find nothing wrong. Suggested magnetic interferance with tags on key chain. Removed them. Still happens. Now I know that if it happens I'm stuck for at least two hours. Help.

Try replacing the cars computer with a known good one. It seems the computer or "brainbox" is deprogramed for some reason.

Where is the anti theft box located on 2003 ford Taurus?

The PATS - passive anti-theft system is a program (software ) programmed into the instrument cluster , PCM - engine computer , GEM module etc... Plus behind the plastic shroud on steering column where the lock cylinder is located the passive anti-theft transceiver module ! You better know what your getting into when you start to mess with anti-theft systems , you can render your vehicle useless if your not careful ! Need factory scanner to program keys , to read trouble codes , check data etc... If you change transceiver module it will need to be programmed ! FORD DEALER ONLY ! You can program more keys but need to have original two keys that came with the vehicle or you can't do it >
Passive Anti-Theft System (PATS) -Principles of Operation PATS uses a specially encoded ignition key. Each encoded ignition key contains a permanently installed electronic device called a transponder. Each transponder contains a unique electronic identification code out of over 18 billion, billion combinations.
The passive anti-theft system (PATS), also known as SecuriLock ®, uses radio frequency identification technology to deter a drive-away theft. This system is known as SecuriLock® in North America, Safeguard® in the U.K., and PATS in Continental Europe. Passive means that it does not require any activity from the user.
The SecuriLock® System (PATS) is not compatible with non-Ford aftermarket remote start systems, which allow the vehicle to be started from outside the vehicle. These systems may reduce the vehicle security level, and also may cause no-start issues. If equipped, the remote start system must be removed before investigation of PATS-related, no-start issues.
Each encoded ignition key must be programmed into the vehicle powertrain control module (PCM) before it can be used to start the engine. There are special diagnostic repair procedures described in this section that must be carried out if a new encoded ignition key is necessary.
The correct ignition key is a different design than prior model years. Please consult the Rotunda Key Ordering Guide for the correct part number.
So , before messing with something you know nothing about , do yourself a favor , take it to the nearest FORD dealer !

Try pulling the fuse for the anti theft system and starting. If the car starts normally, then the problem is with the theft system. The theft system will reset itself after a period of time.

My taurus wont start or even turn over battery connections all ok. my theft light is blinking faster than normal could this be a reason for not starting? if so what do i do or try? im frustrated......

yes the fast blinking theft light indicates that theft mode is activated. you wont be able to start the vehicle until you have the keys reprogrammed at your local ford dealer.

I would like to know how to reset my anti theft on

The procedure for reprograming a key,
1 insert key and turn on but do not start, then turn off.
2 wait 15 minutes, turn key on, but do not start, then turn off
3 wait another 15 minutes and you should be able to start engine and drive away. You also have the option to have the car towed to the dealership and let them reset it with their scanner.

My '99 Ford wagon has been dying in idle for 7 months. Now it won't start, clicks when I turn key but won't start. I've noticed the "theft" light has been on for about 2 weeks when I'm driving, no idea...

Sounds like the anti theft system might need to be reprogramed. Anti theft will shut the car down and will not let it turn over and will cause the car to cut out. Also sounds like you need an alternator. Sounds like the probelms are related. You need to have the computer scanned and get the codes so you can have a better idea of what the problem is.

Turn ignition key and motor starts up, next day turn ignition key and motor just turns over and wont start. could it be anti theft problem its a 2002 f150 4 wheel drive with 4.6 liter

This could be caused by either a faulty Crank Shaft Position Sensor or the anti-theft system. Try put key in, turn to ON position for EXACTLY 10 minutes, As SOON as anti-theft light shuts off or stops flashing, then IMMEDIATELY start the engine.

Anti theft system

The chip is in the key. Either the key has lost it's program or the transceiver is not recognising the key. Try another key if you have one.

2001 ford taurus wont start and anti-theft light is blinking

Either you may be using a key that you had copied from the original or your chip went bad in your original key. Most of cars now a days have the key censor in the key so if it is the incorrect key it will not start your car or if it does not read that chip it will not start
