Question about 1990 GMC Safari
The van was running as normal when I parked it for the night I came out to go to work the next morning and it wouldn't start, I have changed the fuel pump and strainer , the fuel filter and the fuel pump relay, I have tested the power to the fuel pump and it is only 6 volts or so but the pump works fine if you jump directly to the batery but the car still wont start.
a 6ya expert can help you resolve that issue over the phone in a minute or two.

SOURCE: my 92 gmc sierra ran
Well if youare getting fuel then the only other problem is spark, check and inspect plugs and wires, to do a test remove a spark plug and with its wire still connected crank the motor, if you see spark then that's not the problem, but if you see no spark then it could be plugs, wires, and or dist cap

you have a weak fuel pump and it should be replaced. according to your observation the engine finally started but it was after alot of cranking. this indicates that the pump is not working like it should and can't keep the system primed.

SOURCE: ran fine then would not start
If it has been rainy, snowy or wet at all were you live you will need to change the cap and rotor. These vortec motors with the horizontel cap are very well known for not starting when damp. Also while you have the cap off there are two holes in the bottom of the distributer with screens in them, clean these out or remove them to keep the moisture from returning.

Have you hooked up a fuel pressure gauge to the test port on the rear of the intake, drivers side. You can get a fuel pressure tester for about 40 dollars at a part store. It is a real good tool to have in your toolbox. If your Jimmy can't build 55 psi, it won't start.
