Question about 2002 Kia Optima

1 Answer

Your 2002 Optima

I had the same issue.. I called and looked online and found they were recalled for the crankshaft positioning sensor. I would check with your local dealer just call them with your VIN handy and see if there are any open recalls.

Be sure to ask about certain requirements needed to reset the computer afterwards.

hop this helps

I have a 2002 Kia Optima L4-2.4L and I replaced the crankshaft position sensor but still have the same failure code. What could be the cause

if you haven't had the light turned out with a scanner, that needs to be done. the computers don't reset on OBDII just by replacing the part.

Jsut want to know where crankshaft position sensor

here are illustrations of the CKP (crankshaft position) sensor in 2.3L and 3.0L.

Note: In the bottom of the 2.3L drawing says Trottle Position (TP) Sensor, this is wrong, It should say CKP Sensor.

2.3L Engine

The Crankshaft Position (CKP) sensor is located to the left of the crankshaft pulley.

Where crank shaft and camshaft?

The camshaft position sensor is located on the timing cover, near the top of the motor. The crankshaft position sensor is located on the same timing cover near the crankshaft. Just a side note, more than likely the crankshaft position is your issue and it's under a recall from Nissan and they will replace it for free.

Would a bad crank sensor cause car to loose power? I went over a speed bump and car just stopped

Actually, On 2006 vehicles the camshaft position sensor senses the TDC point of the number one cylinder, on its compression stroke. Its signal is relayed to the ECM to be used to determine the sequence of fuel injection. The Crank sensor is used to determine RPM ranges The crankshaft position sensor consists of a magnet and coil. The voltage signal from the sensor is relayed to the ECM to indicate engine rpm and the position of the crankshaft. This sensor wouldn't affect your performance but, the Cam sensor will if its damaged. To answer you question correctly, it would be the cam sensor i would check. it actually controls the injection system. if damaged, it will cause performance issues. On 2006 vehicles the crankshaft position sensor is located next to the radiator hose inlet and outlet assembly. On 2006 vehicles, the camshaft position sensor is located on top of the engine, on the engine head cover.

What did the dealer say?

We went to Wilkins Hyundai in Elmhurst, IL
Just as we were told by the Tech at NTB (where we thought it was a battery problem) that it was the Crankshaft Indicator - and it needed to be re-timed. This is what Wilkins found out (after about 3 days of waiting):
FOUND CODE: P0335 and P1372
TOTAL COST: $169.03
It was NOT an recall item.
The back hatchdoor latch issue was quoted to me but we didn't fix it. (the latch sticks in an open position) That cost was about $217...reeedonkulous!!!
It seems to be operating fine - to me it still sounds like it's racing a bit, but that's the way it always felt.
