Not sure exactly here as not sure if this is american model which is different i beleave but i think the sensor in the thermostat housing at the front of the engine to the right ,if its the model iam thinking of then their are two sensors in the plastic housing the back one is the autochoke and front one is the cooling fan ,now no doubt iam wrong here as it could be a bigger engine used in the american models than our 1.6 petrol unless this is a diesel version but dont talk daft as only us europeons buy the diesel variant

Either you have an open circuit to the ECT (engine coolant temperature sensor) or the system has gas bubbles in it from a leaking head gasket or an improperly done service to the cooling system.

DRIVING WHEN CHECK ENGINE LIGHT STARTS FLASHING,TURNED OFF ENGINE. MOTOR OVERHEATING, GAUGE READ NORMAL, LET ENGINE COOL. WHY WILL IT NOT START??

it is possible that the coolant temp sensor has reported the overheat to the ECM and that is now protecting the engine from further damage by immobilizing the engine
have the fault codes read and make sure that there is coolant in the system as gauges will show normal or below if there is insufficient water to cover the sender unit

Why does my fan stay on when I turn off the key

What fan? Coolant or heater? The rad fan can stay on with the key off for a predetermined time depending on engine temperature if the computer requires it to do so

1994 buick skylark overheating why

Check the coolant level.
The radiator must be full, coolant should be mix of 50/50.
If it is full, and stays full when overheating, the most common cause is a defective cooling fan.
One of your electric radiator fans is for your A/C and one is for the radiator cooling
Any time the temperature gauge/ or red light comes on, that fan should be running.
Raise the hood and look the next time it overheats, and if no fans are running, you need get it fixed quick, lest you blow a head gasket.
The problem could be either the electric fan motor, or the sensor switch that screws into the engine block.
If the coolant stays full, and the fans are running, you may have a stuck or closed thermostat.
God bless your efforts.

How long do the cooling fans stay on after car is shut down

The coolant fan temperature sensor detects the coolant is still hot, and keeps the fans on. And remains on until engine cools down. Check the coolant when cold for proper coolant level. If fans stay on all the time, check the coolant fan relay. Good-Day! . It will happen more in warm weather than in the cooler months.

93 civic vtec I finally got the radiator fan to kick on a couple times. it only stayed on for 10 seconds both times. could there be air in the area of the sensor that kicks the fan on? I let it run for...

to check if air in system, let cool down and remove radiator / coolant reservoir cap and systematically squeeze coolant hoses including heater hoses, you should see bubbles in reservoir as you squeeze hoses, continue until no more bubbles, then top up coolant to required level.
