Yes the smog pump was used on this year and engine. If it is missing you will need all the other parts in the Air Injection system as well.

Fuel pressure tester will tell you. Turn on key see if u can hear it . Could be engine sensor as well see if it starts while with spray bottle spray gasoline straight into throttle body while crankin engine see if it starts

Trying to figure out what a certain part in the motor I have. Car runs and all but this item is siezed and would like to replace if necessary. It is above the AC Compressor in my 4.2L I-6 XJ6, 1986


Its most likely the smog pump or air pump same thing, alot of people used to disconnect it or when the belt breaks or it siezed up they would not replace it until it had to be smogged.It has to be hooked up and working to pass smog.

you can get wiring diagrams at alldata.com depending on what vehicle were dealing with. "wiring for 2.8 v6" is not enough info to help you with your problem.
