The most common reason is the interior lights are on, this may be the visor lights for the vanity mirrors.

SOURCE: 2005 battery replacement

Yes you do need to remove the brace "bar" above the battery. If I am not mistaken, the fuse box also has to be relocated for clearance. One thing you must do before you start is disconnect the negative cable from the battery. The negative cable is the black one. One of the oldest rules when working on any vehicle battery is negative is disconnected first and reconnected last. Since the vehicle is "negative ground" it will make it impossible to short negative to ground. The bolts that hold the bar in place are either 13mm or 15mm. The battery is held in place with a plastic wedge that is held down with a 13mm bolt. The battery cables are 8mm.

try starting your car and letting it run for a min disconnect the bat and if it dies then you need to find a bad wire or a bad ground to the alternator. something might not be telling it to put out any power to re-charge your batt

97 Pontiac grand am - no power to 4 underhood fuses (f/p injector, ign mod, erls, abs) i have figured out those 4 fuses are powered by a thicker pink wire not from the battery. Any insight where that pink...

Not sure about the pink wire but these fuses get their power from the fuse box itself. The fuse box is fed directly from the battery 12V hot signal by a red wire maybe your red wire has turned pink over time. That wire comes from the battery, a jumper post from the battery, the starter wire, or the back of the alternator depending on the model of the GM. i believe your Grand-Am has the fuse box powered directly from the positive post on the battery via the battery cable. The fuse box gets also gets an input from the ignition switch so that when the switch is in the on position the bus bar containing "ignition on" voltage becomes hot with battery voltage. one side of the fuse comes from this voltage bus bar and the other side of the fuse goes to the component.

My 2006 Nissan Altima is stuck on park

Hi I had the same problem with mine when I called a dealer they said I had to change the transmission which cost me $1200. I asked some mechanics and was told they need to take the transmission out if you are told the same thing don't believe them turns out it just a bad fuse that blown. Look in ur fuse box for a blown fuse (fuse box located in the car by the driver side bar just below it on the left and the other fuse box in front pop the hood.) Locate the blown fuse and replace it I have made a video on YouTube to help

Losing power in 2001 taurus

Pull all of your fuses, disconnect the Positive lead from the Battery and use a Multi Meter between the cable and battery post. with the ignition on off. Check the voltage, now replace the fuses one at a time and watch for a change in voltage. The fuse that causes a change will be the one that goes to what is draining your battery.

40 amp fuse labeled 'Fuse Block' is causing a 3.5 amp parasitic draw and draining battery

??? are you certain its that ??? that fuse will most likely control all the power in the fuse box and the 3.5 amp you see that's called the parasitic draw will most likely be that of the cars computer..

3.5 amp wont drain a battery over night nor in a week i'm assuming you have at least a 500CCA battery here.

battery's don't drain like that, they do loose power once they have a bad cell, or the battery water is low. I'm assuming you had it tested here by a technician from the battery shop and that's what they told you and its a new battery or relatively new..

to test this your self you can take the battery out of the vehicle and leave it outside over night, you will see the power is drained out and it wasn't connected to anything. Thats because of the bad cell..

To prove it to them, Remove the caps If its not a sealed maintenance free one and you will see bubble coming out of the bad cell once the car is idling.. (don't inhale the fumes or let it get in your eyes)

You have not told us what type of vehicle it. Please do.
A clicking sound seems like a relay. Open the fuse box and locate which one is clicking the identify it from the labels on the fuse cover. Replace the relay. If the replacement behaves the same then check the component that is supplied power by the relay.

How do you get fuse box off bar to remove battery

brasssyslv, There are three bolts holding the bar in place. Two in front and one in the back. To get at the back bolt, remove the plastic triangle shaped cover by pulling it straight up. When you remove these bolts, grab the bar and turn it 90 degrees either way and pull it straight out. Now the only thing holding the fuse box in is either a 10mm bolt or a plastic push pin. Remove it and place the box aside while you change the battery. Good luck with this.

This is like the 4th battery I changed, they keep losing power, alternator has been replaced already new not refurbished. Where's the nearest cliff. lol

Hi
Your alternator may not be powerful enough to support your engine/battery consumption. You may have some wire or component draining your battery due to a short in the wiring or internal damage to the component. At any rate, get it to a mechanic that can track down the problem with test equipment for that purpose. Last thing you can change would be the starter.
Thanks for using Fixya.

Battery drain in 2000 Cadillac Catera

Disconnect one battery terminal (+ or -) but not both and place a large lamp like a headlamp (12v) in series with the battery terminal that is disconnected and the terminal that you removed. If the lamp lights, you are getting a phantom power drain. If the lamp lights dim, place a smaller lamp like a signal light; 5 or 10 watts or so. If you have an ammeter, use that instead as long as you can read it from the fuse area as you go through this process.

Go to the fuse panel and in order, remove the fuses one by one. When you remove a fuse, and the lamp stays lit, put the same fuse right back. Keep going through all the fuses until you find one that shuts the test light off. When you find the fuse that causes the problem, the circuit that is fed off that fuse is causing the problem. I had same issue and no circuit raised its head.

It is normal for the car to draw about 20 to 50mA which keeps the clock and other presets alive and allows the body computer to accept signals from the remote door lock. This is very little current for a car battery.

On the 00, 01, there is a multifunction relay located (in my 01 anyway) above the fuse area in behind the dash, it's a grey box about the size of a pack of cigarettes. In it there are 4 or 5 relays, one of them monitors battery voltage when the vehicle is shut off. When battery voltage drops below a predetermined voltage, the relay kills the power saving the battery for effective start.

I repaired my multifunction relay board by re soldering all the traces on the PC board. The relay box is about $80 (dealer) if you don't want to tackle this. After I repaired the MF relay box, my trunk worked everytime, sunroof, radio and fuel door. And best of all, my battery drain problem disappeared. Its been 2 years now.
