Question about 2002 Pontiac Grand Prix
To get all the monitor ready you are a 2 trip.What this mean the vehicle must see a cold start up then approach 210 F. with a drive cycle at part throttle at 40 mph. and a decel for 2 minutes without stepping on the brake. Then is must see another cold start up and warm up twice.

as you face the engine the thermostat bell is on the right (drivers side) Follow the radiatoe hose. Remove the two bolts and raise the bell still attatched to the hose. the thermostat is there with the rubber seal. You can gently pry the thermostat out with a screwdriver or something similar. Put in new thermostat be sure it is the same as the old one, and then replace or change the seal (be sure it is the smae size and thickness as the old one as I got the wrong size from Napa) Then replace the bell, and tighten, but not over tighten. sounds like you have a vacuum leak, check all the vacuum hoses and replace any broken or kinked ones, also check around the intake manifold gasket for leaks. any air leaks after the air flow meter creates 'un-metered' air which inturn will make the car run rough and stall, hope this helps
