Re: My VW Polo 1.6cl Saloon 1996 4 door (100bhp)
You will need to check the gear linkage hasits free movement and the gearbox mounting is secure. This happen on a Polo recently and the securing bolt to the gearbox mounting had fallen off leaving the gearbox hanging. I hope this helps you.

If the knobs don't come up enough to remove (unscrew) them when unlocking with a key, you will need to remove the door panels to access them. take out the screw in the arm rest, take off the window crank and gently pop the plastic fasteners around the edges straight out, them pull door panel up and away. this should expose the knobs enough to remove, then replace the door panel and put in the new ones... Hope this helps...;-)
You'll need to remove screws that are by the door handle,
arm rest, under door and side of door and then gently pull back on the
panel as there will also be retaining clips attached and you don't want
to break them. If needed, you can pull back the weather seal
(can't reuse it, but it's not that important) and you will be able to
access everything inside the door
I have not worked on a Polo before but almost all VW have a wedge that adjust the back brakes all you have to do is remove one of the lug nuts and place a flat screw drive in the hole a push the wedge up./ I believe to spring and wedge toward the front of the car, Put your lug hole at 3 o'clock and you sould feel the spring if not put it at 9 o'clock. Hope it helps, remember do one side at a time, the other side is a good refirence.
