97 318i Instrument Cluster

Hello everyone,
The lights on the instrument cluster on my 97 318i were going dull so i opened the cluster and replaced then had it tested before putting it back togather... they were good. But once i put the whole thing back togather and tested it... is was not working. Only the hazard indicator, signal indicator, check engine light, ABS light and a couple of other ones were working. The speedometer, tacho meter, oil gadge, temprature gadge and some other light indicators are no longer working.
Can anyone help me with this?

thank you in advance,

the cluster illumination dimmer control does illuminate the cluster itself but it does illuminate the radio and heater botttons. Before this problem, everytime i would turn the headlights on the cluster would illuminate and the controll would adjust the light. but now it does illuminate at all.

Where is the cluster fuse located?

should be with the rest of the fuses in the fuse box..look under the steering column or in the glove box sometimes they are on either side of the dashboard also by the door jams

Instrument cluster illuminates intermittently on 1990 eldorado

If this is the analog intrument cluster and the entire instrument cluster is intermittently losing illumination, remove the instrument cluster light fuse and replace it with a new fuse. It is remotely possible that the actual fuse holder wires have broken due to age and would need to be soldered back together.
If this is the digital instrument cluster and the entire display is going dead, it could be anything from the wiring harness to the BCM. If it is the digital instrument cluster, I can really only recommend taking it to a reputable shop or Cadillac dealer to service.

'95 Lincoln town car. Husband was driving uphill and the digital dash suddenly went dark. Radio is working and a/c is not. Exterior light still working and so are interior lights besides the dash

Could be a bad wire possibly chaffing or grounding out to to another wire or frame. Check your fuses. You may want to pull the dash out and check that wiring as well

How to replace the dashboard bulb in a 1999 plymouth voyager

Which light is out? Is it an instrument cluster light, or one on the temperature or A/C cluster? It it's an instrument cluster light, here is the process: (I'm assuming the 99 is similar to the 98) Remove the bottom dash panel under the steering wheel, remove the instrument cluster cover around the steering column. This will reveal the screws that hold your instrument cluster cover in place. Remove this cover and you can then see and remove the 4 screws holding your instrument cluster in place. Pull your instrument cluster out, remove the main wire connector, then you have access to all the instrument cluster lights on the back side. Hopefully you remember which one is out!

Insturmentation panel lights fuse blows when i start car

Try to remove the instrument panel and disconnect the harness to see if doing that gets rid of the blown fuse when starting the car. If it does, then the instrument panel should be replaced with another. If the fuse still blows when starting, then there is a wire shorted to ground somewhere.

Instrument cluster bulb is out. how do i replace

It may not be a bulb, as the instrument cluster usually has a number of bulbs and they probably didn't all blow at once. Pulling instrument clusters can be touchy and may not be for the average "shadetree mechanic" however, typically there are a few screws above the cluster going into the dash pad and a few hidden behind the trim panels below the cluster.

Need to replace instrument cluster/AC bulbs

Hello, You can obtain a 2004 Ram Factory Service Manual with all of that information available from Promanuals.net. The reason why it may be so important is because right before the removal instructions the service manual has diagnostic instructions to try. There are numerous pages on removing the instrument cluster, and cluster bezel.

(1) Disconnect and isolate the battery negative
cable. (For Airbag)

(2) Remove the cluster bezel from the instrument
panel. (Refer to 23 - BODY/INSTRUMENT PANEL/
CLUSTER BEZEL - REMOVAL).

(3) Remove the four screws that secure the instrument
cluster to the instrument panel structural support
(Fig. 5).

(4) Pull the instrument cluster rearward far
enough to access and disconnect the instrument
panel wire harness connectors for the cluster from
the connector receptacles on the back of the cluster
housing.

(5) Remove the instrument cluster from the instrument
panel.
