SOURCE: car loses power when going

The first thing you need to check is fuel pressure. If you don't have a fuel pressure gauge you can buy one from a tool supplier, but the gauge may costs more than the diagnosis from a shop.
Another thing you may want to check is you catalytic convertor to make sure that it is not plugged.

SOURCE: losing power up one particular long hill

It sounds like a tranny problem. Without more info kinda hard to diagnose. The simplist thing to check is tranny fluid. If its low, going up a hill will pull fluid out of the torque converter. It could be the converter itself. It could possibly a fuel problem, but unlikely. Hope this helps. John...

Replace fuel filter, spark plugs and definately plug wires. You should also make sure intake filter is clean and clear.

We have a nissan 2002 altima that looses power going up a bit of a hill. It starts ok but the battery doesn't keep the charge and the altinator has been replaced. No power when stepping on the gas...

Please check the throttle valve connections and make sure it's working properly.Since there is no power gain during hill climb, the desired torque is not achieved due to excessive wear of gear tooth or due to the problem with the clutch plate. Please make sure these are properly working.

While driving along mostly up hills and or pulling my 2002 dodge ram 1500 5 speed tends to loose power. What could be the cause of that?

All vehicles will lose a certain amount of power when going up hill or towing depending on how steep the hill or how heavy the load. Do you shift down when needed.

it probably does need a tranny fluid change, but this wouldn't account for loss of power. The tranny is only reacting to the power provided by the engine. I'd think it's starting with power loss from the engine. The easiest and cheapest place to start is the fuel filter. It's probably getting plugged and restricting fuel flow when more power is required - as in going up a hill. The filter is about 8 to 12 dollars. The auto parts store can tell you where it's located.
