How to remove intake manifold on a 4 cylinder toyota without having to remove engine?

I have a 1994 toyota camry le 2.2L 4 cylinder engine. I have a blown head gasket so I have removed almost everything from the head except the intake manifold. Can anyone tell me how to remove the intake manifold without having to remove the engine as the engine is placed slanted and the intake is next to the firewall which makes it hard to reach the final four bolts on the bottom.

I was already thinkin of that but it won't work because there is cables and other parts in the back of the intake that connect to it and I can't reach those either. What I may end up doing is try to remove the the final four bolts from the bottom of the car.

SOURCE: Changing the Head Gaskets

hi Dirk, its easier to remove the harness, i gues your problem could lie with disconnecting the injector connections, to disconnect them there's a locking stainless-steel ring which needs to be moved halfway on one side and then the connector pulled out. and also check for a large connector that can split the harness.

SOURCE: Intake manifold gasket needs replaced

it is a pretty basic job the important things to remember is to remove everything sequentially. in other words make a note of which bolts go where. remove the intake and clean both mating surfaces, usually you dont need gasket sealant for an intake manifold. reassemble in the order removed thats about it.

SOURCE: i have a 1993 toyota camry le v6, that is not over

I'd remove the thermostat and run it. If the problem continues, it could be head gaskets, but, v6 head gaskets rarely fail. Also make sure that teh rad cap is good; have it pressure tested.

Wherer is the knock sensor for a 1995 toyota camry located at?

You don't say what engine this is, 4 or V6

In a V6 there are 2, in the valley between cylinder heads, and you have to remove the intake manifold to get at them. See here 137 and p176

http://www.turboninjas.com/camry/eg2.pdf

In a 4, it is high up just below the head gasket joint, on the right side of the block. See here p93 and p125.

Knock sensor diagram

On the 2.4 liter four-cylinder engine it is located on the siie of the engine block (the side nearest the firewall).

On the 3.0 Liter V-6 engine there are 2 knock sensors and the are located in the "valley" below the intake manifold. You'll have to remove the intake manifold to get to them.

Where can I find the thermostat on a 1996 camry?

On a four-cylinder engine, this is located between the alternator and exhaust manifold. On a 6 cylinder engine, the inlet pipe is bolted to the cylinder head with the thermostat housing at the back of the intake manifold.

Understanding trouble codes for my vehicles

first the quest, this is common for nissan, replace the knock sensor, this sensor is located under the intake manifold rear of engine, some models you can sneak sensor out without removing the intake, this will take care of that car. now the camry, im guessing this is a 4 cylinder engine, replace the air fuel sensor (oxygen sensor) thats on the exhaust manifold. this will solve that problem. hope this helped.

87 camry won't run without hand over air intake. started by dieing then running some then dieing and not restarting without blocking air

You have a significent vacuum leak at the engine.
I would suspect a leaking intake manifold gasket.
