The 1998 Sienna has one speed sensor in each tire (ABS sensors.) These sensors are used by the ABS system, but also to calculate the vehicle speed and for the tire air pressure monitor. If you are getting a P0500 code and your speedometer does not work, your problem could be a faulty speedometer. If one of the speed sensors were bad, the low tire air pressure light would come on. SOURCE: The sliding door handles of my 1998 Toyota Sienna have both broken.

OK, here you go:

Pry out on the bottom of the cupholder bottom, relieve 2 clips, pull the bottom out & slide it down

Remove the door trim screw, and pry out on the door panel, relieve 10 clips, pull door trim off

Remove the horizontal upper trim cover at the top of the door; relieve 4 clips

Remove the vertical door trim cover; relieve 2 clips

Remove the window garnish around the handle; pull the small trim cover off; remove 3 screws
This exposes the inside handle

The inside handle is retained by 2 screws.

SOURCE: I replaced the oxygen sensor on 2004 Toyota

idle speed adjustment is most probably not the problem, what most likley happened is you loosened a vacuum line in the process of removing the o2 sensor. try listening for a hissing sound. or spraying around with some carb cleaner to find the location.

if you mean the rear O2 sensor its located in the exhaust pipe and is the last sensor mounted in the exhaust system. its not hard to find. remove the old one and install the new one.

Transmission speed sensor

You could have a faulty speedometer/odometer combination meter causing a false Vehicle Speed Sensor error.
My 1998 Sienna had the following symptoms:
- Speedometer and odometer failed intermittently
- The check engine light would come on and I would get a p0500 code in the OBDII.
- The cruise control would stop working at the same time the speedometer failed.
There is a speed sensor in each one of the tires and they feed the speed information to the ABS ECU. From the ABS ECU the speed signal goes to the speedometer/odometer combination meter, and from there it goes to the Engine Control Module and to the Cruise Control ECU. I could see a signal coming into the speedometer/odometer, but no signal going out. Replacing the speedometer/odometer combination meter fixed the problem.

1998 toyota sienna diagnostic code p0500

this obd2 trouble code table can help you understand the meaning of code.
For this code you can try this:
The simplest thing to do is to reset the code and see if it comes back.
for your car, I think the ps701 jp scanner can reset the code.
Next, check all wiring and connectors that lead to the speed sensor. The location of the sensor depends on your vehicle. The sensor could be on the rear axle, transmission, or perhaps the wheel hub (brake) assembly.
If the wiring and connectors are OK, then check the voltage at the speed sensor. Again, the exact procedure wil depend on your make and model of vehicle.
If everything looks OK, replace the sensor.

How difficult is it to change out the left rear wheel bearing and the speed sensor on a 2000 toyota sienna?

Front wheel drive. Changing the rear bearings is easy. The speed sensor should be easy as it can be located on the transmission and changed from the outside in most cases. For both jobs I recommend the Haynes repair manual on your vehicle.

try an emergency stop(brake real hard)if the wheels lock then you know that the abs is not working.
its probably only a sensor faulty.....
