I am assuming that the truck is an automatic. If this is the case then most likely your clutches are going out in whichever gear that it slips in. Try changing the fluid and filter and that may fix it.

Truck is a 4x4 and a 88 Ford Ranger, when you turn the key, the starter will not engage. However, if you ratchet the clitch, sometimes the starter turns over, Is it mechanical or the computer and does...

I know on mine (88 ranger 4x4 manual transfer case and ******, 2.9 v6, short wheel base) it has what seems to me to be something similar to a nuetral safety switch. The starter will not even try to engage unless the clutch is in. You're kind of vague in your description. But if your issue is not getting it to turn over when in nuetral, and not pressing in the clutch I don't think anything is broken, that it is a safety feature from Ford

Not getting fire to plug wires. I have replaced coil pack, module, dist pickup, and cap. I have tested and have fire to dist but nothing coming out. This is an 86 2.8 comanche 4x4 w/ 4 barrel Holley carb...

You have spark on the coil wire but not coming from the cap. You replaced the cap right. Did you replace the rotor too. Sometimes the rotor burn in the center and the spark goes right thru it in to the distributor shaft.

I want to change my 1989 2wd comanche into a 4wd? how do i do this and can i use a cherokees parts? i have a 4.0L

if u want to change it to a 4x4 u need front drive line. and it bolts to a transfer case. u need to get one special ordered, u could use a cheokee tranny that has 4 wheel drive and bolt it on to the back of the motor. make sure that the bell housing has the same kind of bolt pattern that the back of the motor has.

I have a 1973 corvette with a 350. The starter does nothing sometimes, and other times it works fine. It is in the 'does nothing' mode now. I think either a loose connection somewhere or auto tranny...

Put it in nuetral. If it still does not start smack the starter a few times with a hammer. If this causes it to start, replace the starter. If you jump the starter at the starter this will tell you its a starter problem since your bypassing everthing.. Also on a car this old you may have dirty battery connections or a weak ground cable. In order to to a quick test on the ground cable use jumper cables hooked from the ground terminal to the engine or clamped right on the starter body. If it now cranks i would suspect cable issues.

93 chevy 4x4 with a 4l60e tranny. will a 98 tranny swap?

Nothing after 1995, because from 1996 on the transmissions are for OBD II. Your truck has OBD I.

TRANSMISSION

The two wheel drive tranny won't work because it will be longer. The tranny that came out of the 4 wheel drive is shorter and the transfer case bolts to the rear of the tranny thus it has a shorter output shaft and a different spline to accommodate the transfer case. You need to find the correct tranny unless you want to change the internals from one tranny to the other.
