after replacing the cat and tps i found the problem.between 2k and 3k rpms it would cut out and then

come back up ,i finally took the dist out and found that the non servicible pick-up in the dist had a

small plastic piece that holds the mag pick-ups in place it looks like a dual pick-up one for the ignition part and i think the other is the cam sensor? since this piece is not availible from toyota

i opted for a used piece from the bone yard.you can,t really see this problem w/o removeing the

dist,i had the cap and rotor off three times and still didn't see it.cause of problem fatigue

due to mileage and age plastic don't last for ever !hope this helps someone ......

What codes do you have- it sounds like it is going into fuel cut to stop the engine from over rev condition.

Sounds like you might have a hairline crack in the DIST cap and it causing the system to rev and shut down as a safety feature for the engine. (Monitored by the cam sensor).

Are you sure that you cannot get a replacement part from either Toyota or an OEM like NAPA Auto Parts? If you live outside of the USA, NAPA is perhaps the best source for OEM parts for just about any make or model of auto. They will ship anywhere in the world and have a great online website to order at:

http://www.napaonline.com/

Check out the website first before you buy the junk part, more than likely you will run into the same problem. My wife and I used to own a 94 Camry 4cyl, was one of the best cars we have ever had until it was totaled in a headon collision. Great airbags and crumple zone. We walked away with a few minor scratches and bruises, no broken bones between us. Gotta love Toyotas.

Hope this helps you out.

Cheers,

Keith

I have a 2008 mercury Milan with nearly 60k miles on it. When I come to a stop the rpm drops by 1000 then recovers quickly. What should I do to fix the problem? Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

Runs rough when idling, even worse in drive, and nearly cuts off in reverse. Loses power climbing a hill.Is not running hot. Oil and trans fluid look good. Sometimes "service engine light is on". Changed...

I would perform a compression test on all cylinders if you've already changed your plugs and wires. This willtell u if u have ay mechanical problems with the engine. Also even tho you've changed your spark plugs and wires did you check your injectors or coil packs to ensure they're good. A problem with either will also cause misfires.

2002 regal would slow down going up hills then

the catalytic converter most likely is no the sorurce of the problem, older design bead type Cat converters used to plug, but it is very rare on the newer ceramic honeycomb cats, u need to have the electronic engine control tested, are u getting a check engije light? if not has the fuel filter been replaced every 30,000 miles? also a part called the Mass Airflow sensor can cause these symptoms as well as igntion system problems.

1992 toyota camry v6 le boggs down on acceleration

It sounds like you may have a vacuum leak. Your car should normally idle at about 700-750 RPM. You said that yours was at about 1000-1500, that is waaay to high. If you have a leak somewhere in the system the car will draw in extra air and it will want to idle much higher and will also be very erratic and hard to drive.

Car cuts out rpms jump around feels like out of gas then dies?

Wow, you've thrown a lot into your paragraph (rpms, going up hills, chugs, dies, when it warms up, when the A/C has been on, etc). With that said, I'll try to help you with what i know and what you said, and provide you with supporting diagnostic articles.

For the engine's cutting in rpms, incremental loss of power, see this handy diagnostic article that provides you with a list and explanation of the most probable causes:

When the car dies when it is warm and the A/C has been on, review these articles that specifically address such circumstances:

Check your cyalytic converter and your entire exhaust system for damage. A blocked up exhaust will give you a loss of ower as will a clogged or damaged cat con.

Check the basics, fuel pressure, fuel filter plugged, spark plugs, dirty air filter, coil output-use an old spark plug and watch spark intensity. Could be a plugged cat. Good luck!!
