Question about 1997 Dodge Intrepid

1996 Dodge Intrepid: Could someone tell me where the engine ground strap goes to and from. I know mine is broken. Could this be the reason I suspect a problem with BCM? Airbag lite on and off, lose

Difficulty starting but I always hear the cellonoid clicking. While running, airbag lite comes on, lose power windows and locks and heater fan. If it is not the ignition cylinder, according to my research, then it is possibly BCM. I know that my engine ground strap is broken. Could this be the reason I am having a problem with BCM? Can anyone help with advice? Thanks

Ok I've been reading about BCM replacement. Mine is a 96 Intrepid. No special key. If I were to purchase one of these used would I be able to put it in my car without any special programming. I realize the lileage won't be correct. I'm reading that on some of the second generation ones, that the VIn is burned in and would have to be reprogrammed by the dealer. Anyone know about this? Thanks

The earth strap goes from any solid mount on the engine to any solid mount on the chassis. I dont know if this will help solve all of your problems but it certainly wont do any harm.

Testimonial: "Yes it was helpful just not sure what/ where cellonoid mount is. I am totally uninformed but I'm learning. Got under there today and found where it goes, cleaned it up and reconnected it but I am still suspecting problems with BCM and still having trouble starting. Still working on it."

I have a 1996 dodge intrepid that keeps over heating. I've changed the thermostat and now it over heats sometimes. The auto store told me I had to bleed the thermostat but didn't tell me how to do it. How...

If the thermostat is working, and there is no visible coolant leak or water/coolant in engine oil dipstick, then it could be the electric fan, try running your car and when it starts to overheat check to see if the fan is working. Good Luck.

Tranny slips & no overdrive

Vehicle needs to be up in the air. Exhaust, trans cross mount support, bellhousing bolts, all wire connectors, shift cable, cooler lines, both axle shafts, torque converter bolts, all have to be removed. As far as a computer link up goes, you will need to do a quick learn & a clutch volume index (CVI) reset. A dealer can do that after the new trans is in. Good Luck.

Chrysler made a LHS vehicle that would be very compatible to yours. Engine wise & for some other parts, any of the 300 M or LHS vehicles should work. Hopes this helps.

Car stals out

I don't know if this will help but I had the same problem on a 1993 Intrepid. It turned out that the problem was a broken wire at the connector to the cam sensor. The way I found it was to have someone crank the engine while I moved the cable to the sensor and I could make the engine start and stop as I wiggled the cable.
