Well you did not specify you were having vehicle issues.
Yes the bulbs do burn out, easy to change. Yes dishonest people remove bulbs or disconnect to sell a vehicle or what ever sneaky reason.
After unscrewing all needed to remove plastic cover you are able to pull out the dash console. Be careful when doing so because if it is digital then you can accidentally unhook the speedometer line,, I did that once,,LOL Anyways, there are connectors on the back and each connector will have a co existing bulb right around it. Pull the bulbs out one by one and see if it looks burned, you can tell between a good one and bad one. Also you can see if any of the connectors were unhooked.
There should be a fuse for the dash lights as well. Check that.

Remember just because a fuse looks good it does not mean your not having fuse box issues. I have seen good fuses but the connecting wires behind fuse box were having electrical problems. I have seen where people had to by pass certain parts of the fuse box-tying in to other wires to allow power to something else.
There are many thoughts on your question.

For most important thought is, are you having vehicle problems to even ask this question? Or are you just curious?

My 97 Sonoma starts, doesn't start. It jumps easily. When I turn the key, I get nothing - no dashboard lights, no engine crank.

Do the dash lights come on with the jumper cables? Did someone connect the jumper cables backwards? Sounds like a main fuse blown. Check the plastic fuse box under the hood near the battery on top of the inner fender. All power to the truck begins there. Check for large fuses 30 amp to 60amp. check everything in that box, relays too.

Why fuse #7 burn out instrument cluster

http://www.my-chevy-venture.com/fuses.html Indicates it serves the indicator lights for your shift lever Park, Reverse, Neutral, Drive, Low. So you have a short to ground (body metal) somewhere after the fuse box on to the indicator light and possibly the Ignition switch. Has someone worked on the car recently? Take it back or ask them to fix it. If someone you know.
A very careful inspection of all the wires from the fuse box on to the indicator light switches and possibly the Ignition switch will hopefully reveal the short. Sometimes the body metal will cut into the cables and cause a short, sometimes from a collision. I like the new very bright led flashlight for this kind of inspection in the dark. Good luck

Pwr surge took out alt, windows guages blinkers, wipers, heat and ac

Hi S, It seems to me that the surge may have been caused by the alternator before blowing. A short circuit may has caused the diodes to blow, which in turn will probably have been caused by a short circuit created when the radio theft took place. The first thing to do is isolate all loose cables and make sure that there are no internal shorts inside any auxiliary equipment. After making repairs to the alternator, or fitting a replacement, disconnect all connectors to switches and other controlled units such as cabin heating and ventilation systems, music, TV and navigation systems. The fuse box is located in the engine compartment. Check all for continuity and replace burned fuses and at the same time, check for any damaged relays. Once are you satisfied everything is as it should be turn the ignition key to auxiliary and check all cables for overheating. Connect each unit one at a time until a fuse blows or all are connected. If a fuse blows while connecting, replace the fuse, but leave that circuit disconnected and continue until all are connected or another fuse blows. Once the dangerous circuits have been identified, trace the fault either into the wiring harness or the units. Repair if possible or replace. Once that has been done, crank and start the engine. Check all circuits with the engine running and the park brake fully engaged. If the engine fails to start check the electrics which operate the starter motor. Hope this info is at least a little helpful. Regards John

Saturn jumper cables hooked up backwards

Try charging the battery more. Even though your lights may come one, starting a vehicle requires massive amounts of amperage from the batter. It's possible that your jumper cables aren't a thick enough guage to supply enough power as well. Sometimes the vehicle you're jumping from might not have enough power to support your vehicle's starting power requirements.

95 bmw 525i no dash lights no tach no tremp gauge and fuel gauge pegged way past full

Why was the battery missing to begin with? I would start by checking all fuses under dash and Central hub. Check for burned in-line fuses,if any, coming off of battery cables.

The pos cable came off while driving the car stop put it back on and the eng. light tra light came on what do i do

You could try putting the ignition in the`ON`position(dash lights only) remove negitive battery terminal for 90secs with ignition still on re-connect the battery. If that fails find someone with a code reader to put the light out..Hope it helps...

My dash light do not come on

FIrst, spin the brightness knob back and forth, if dirt or corrosion are causing the problem, this cleans the contact area. If that does not resolve it, check the fuses number 7 and 11 just under the dash on drivers side, it has a cover on it that comes off.

If the lights for system check do not come on when the key is turned to run without starting engine, check the fuses number 9 and 5 just under the dash on drivers side.

If this does not correct the issue, and the following- Radio glove box light, ashtray light, ABS light at startup with the other system check lights do work, the bulbs for dash illumination are probably burned out.

if the radio, ash tray and glove box light work and the other system check lights do not- the dash cluster may be seperated from the connector on the back side. or the ground wire for the cluster may not be making contact. The ground wire specific for the dash cluster lights is a black wire with orange trace stripe.

I have a 2002 Ford Focus ZX5 with a check engine light on.. Just out of curiousity, which fuse specifically controls a check enigne indicator on the dashes guage cluster. And if the fuse is pulled, what...

there is no fuse for that, you would either have to fix the issue for the reason the light is on or disconnect the battery for a few hours to erase the memory in the cars computer.
