Make sure the gear shift is fully in the park while someone is trying to start the car using a hammer tap the starter.if it starts then the starter has a bad spot in it and needs to be replaced.if not then using a test light check for power on the large wire on the stater you should have power there at all times.if not then you will have to find why there is no power there.if there is then check for power on the other terminal on the starter it should only have power on it while someone is trying to start the car if so then the start solenoid is no good and needs replacing.usually its suggested to replace the complete starter assembly as often the rest of the start will go bad without warning.if you don`t have power on this wire then again you will have to check as to why.check fuses and there is a starter relay in the under hood power relay box that you can sometimes move another relay into that position to see if its the relay.also if your car has anti-theft make sure its not activated.

SOURCE: wont start

sounds like your not getting power to the starter. check the connections on the battery and the starter to see if any thing is loose. if not you could try taking off the starter, and taking it to a part store and have them test it.

Check the main fuse under the hood. It'll be a big fuse, like 80-150 amps.

SOURCE: I had my starter check and they said it was good.

Do u mean the engine turns and doesnt start? Because the purpose of the starter is to turn the engine if the engine turns n doesnt start u have a fuel or ignition situation

Replaced fuel pump and filter and car still wont start. Have new battery, starter, water pump...

I saw what you replaced, didn't see any testing? Make sure battery has a full charge and battery connections all good, that is positive and ground, both are important. Check fusible links where applicable? Do any electricals work, dash lites--headlamps--anything?
If needed check fuses in fuse box for voltage use a test lite. Some fuses are hot all the time, some go hot with the key on. Just pick any component that isn't working and is fuse protected, check voltage at the fuse.
The starter motor usually has two voltage circuits, one comes from the battery, hot all the time. The other circuit should go hot with key in the crank position and is wired through neutral or clutch switch, depending on the tranny. It is possible to be wired through starter relay, depending on the vehicle. Any starter testing, make sure tranny is in park or neutral and parking brake is set.
I need year--make--model.

1995 dodge intrepid wont start. Battery is fully charge but no power to anything. Car wont start

The alternator would not come into play unless the battery was dead.
Could be corrosion inside one of the battery cables, or a blow maxi fuse for the fuse box. Or a bad ground connection.
You would need to take a meter or test light and check for power at the starter post, and the major fuses.

2004 325xi BMW wont start - replace spark plugs and fuel pump

If u hear the engine cranking in the AM, the batt & alt sound good. If you don't get any engine cranking in the am you may have an electrical short draining the battery. Before u convict the starter u must make sure the battery has full power in the AM. (12V) & 12 V to the starter

My 1997 pathfinder wont start, could it be the starter?

i am assuming that you have adequate battery power and the batteri is in good shape. sounds like it doesnt crank. the starter is located on passanger side of the truck and its bolted to the transmission with 2 bolts. quick way of testing starter is to hit it with a specialty tool called "hammer". have someone hold the key in start position while you whack the starter. not the right way of doin it, but for someone who doesnt work on cars and doesnt have things like multimeters and access to factory service manuals its the fastest and cheapest test/way to test starter. if the car starts when you hit it (again, while someone is holding the key in start position) then the starter is junk. if it doesnt start, then multimeter will be handy with starter curcuit diagram. it could br nueroud things anywhere from blown fuse, to relay, to wiring issue, but start with hitting the starter and let me know what happened if anything. oh yea, make sure you set your ebrake and even maybe chuck the wheels before you climb under the truck to do the test. and if its a automatic, make sure you have in in "park position" so the truck doesnt move. dont want to get run over by accident. !!! that would **** !!!

04 pontiac grand prix wont start.

first remove the battery and take it to a auto parts place and have them check it. move on from there. if the battery is good the do a starter draw test. take a meter and hook it to your battery. now have someone try and start the car. if the voltage on the battery drops from 12.8 to below 9 volts then the starter is bad. if the voltage doesnt drop much at all then its prolly the solenoid both of which require starter replacement since most solenoids are on starters. if still nothing then check ignition switch. but before anything else ensure vehicle is in park. if it is in part use a meter to test neutral safety switch.

My 2000 eclipse wont start up all the way

I have the same problem on my 2002 Eclipse RS 2.4l 4 cylinder. Replaced the battery, starter, fuel pump(not at one time) . It started up when I had the starter put on as well the fuel pump. But everytime I started the car up it ran good till I turned it off the problem was still there. The car sounds like it wants to start but it sputters you can smell the gas so I know its getting fuel. it starts up fine with a cold start like in the morning.

Try getting a diagnostic thats what Im going to do next week.
good luck!!!

2000 silverado sometimes start, other times not so much

To determine if recognizing park is the issue simply place vehicle in neutral and attempt to start with your foot firmly on the brake. Starter may have a missing tooth or starter solenoid may have an issue. I would also check ground wire to frame and connections at the starter for fraying or loose connection
