The TPS is used by the vehicles ECM for power enrichment, and idle stability when you remoce the sensor connector the ECM uses a substitute value so you can drive the vehicle. So the TPS is not the problem here You are basically suffering from a vehicle lean condition or false air. Removing the TPS connection only enrichen the car.Trouble shoot the MAF (mass air flow ) this is the one that houses the air filter check the boot going to the intake manifold make sure its not cracked or leaking air giving false chugging when stopped. I have replaced tps but - 2_24_2012_5_22_13_am.gif

What do I need to look at fixing? the car turns over, but does not start...chugging sound when turning the key.

is it turning over fast. If trying to start, chugging then would possibly have code stored in PCM, sounds like TPS, IAC or MAF sensor. It can be hard diagnosing without scanning to get a starting point to start at.

Firing problems 2000 honda civic

From easiest to hardest on fixing would be to use fuel cleaner, if that doesn't work then you need to change the fuel filter, if that doesn't work then you need to check your injectors, if it still isn't fixed then you need to pull and clean (and possibly replace) your spark plugs.

Try removing the heater blower relay and see if that stops it, if it doesn't replace the relay.

My 1996 GF1 impreza just wants to run at 2000rpm. This happens when i engage the gear. When i disconnect the throtle position sensor, everything cools off, adjusting the same sensor while connected...

From your description it looks like you have a defective TPS (The TPS is the position sensor on top of the throttle body that you are disconnecting).

Signal from the TPS is very important for different vehicle's functions. Among other thing the TPS output is used by the electronic ignition system to determine the fuel mixture being injected and by the automatic transmission to determine when to change gear. In your case the transmission was probably not shifting into higher gears, for that reason the engine was not revving above 2K rpm.

The TPS can be tested reading voltage at its terminals while someone operates the throttle pedal. Voltage must increase/decrease smoothly and stay in range, otherwise the TPS must be replaced.

As said at start your problem is likely a defective TPS. The fault is quite common and it is fixed replacing the TPS.

I drive for a while and its fine then out of the blue it feels like it doesnt want to go like its losing fuel until I floor the gas and it runs fine again and it will do it again whenever it feels like it....

If by losing fuel you mean it wants to stall whenever your foot is off the accelerator, than you are correct, the TPS is usually the culprit It's common for a car with a bad TPS to run great when the engine is cold and want to stall when you come to a stop. Other symptoms of a bad TPS is a stalling problem when warm and the car is in park. Running a diagnostic test will probably show a bad MAF sensor as well but the 2 parts work hand in hand and a MAF sensor alone doesn't usually fix the problem.
