96 Chevy Cavalier Over Heating... Why?

I have a 1996 Chevy Cavalier, 2.2L. Awhile ago it started overheating, and i noticed leaking. I ended up replacing the head gasket, water pump, radiator, Heater core, various gaskets, and the thermostat (twice, one from lordco, one from gm dealership). It is still overheating and i am not sure why. While replacing the heater core however, i had removed the thermostat, and used a connector to join the heater core inlet and outlet hoses, so i could drive. During this time, the temp never even made it into operating temp range. Is there something i am missing?

    It should also be noted, that it appeared that coolant was being pushed out past my reservoir cap, which i also replaced.

This sounds like the similar deal on the corsica might have a thermal pack on the tranmssion you are over looking if ou've hasd ths car for some time now and never checked the tranny Fluid, Now would be a goodtime to have it changed out. This is due to thermal break down of the fluid. if the tranny fluid is like that. It Cause more Friction heat to the Thermal cooling Pack to act like a tea kettle there will be over heating of antifreeze and spillage on the ground! As the Radiator Supplies the Thermal Pack on The Tranny!.....Check Tranny Fluid.
If it has a Orange Hue to Pinkish color; It'sTime For fluid change.

This can cost around 79.99 to over 100.00 depending on where you Shop!

Check coolant leak, some hose or radiator clogged or water pump go to bad.

    No visible leaking, oil looks good, not cloudy. Water pump is new and working, no visible signs of coolant in/around the vent hole. Radiator new as well. All hoses were flushed and no signs of leaking. Have even bled the system of all air. Im starting to think faulty sensor, but would have to get that diagnosed.

    In order to know if some sensor go to bad, you will need scanned the computer with OBD scanner reader, sometimes Autozone or AutoShop with this tools make this job for free; note the fault code number and come back again. Keep in touch.

Dear, check water leakage from the heater's radiator. For this, disconnect water circulation to the car cabin heater.
There are two water carrying hoses for the heater, one is to carry water to the heater and the other one is to carry it back to engine. One end of these two hoses is connected to the engine side and the other end of these hoses is connected to the heater side.
You have to disconnect any first hose's end from the heater's side and second hose's end from the engine's side.

Now connect the hose end, which you had disconnected from the heater

The anit theft light on my 96 chevy cavalier is on and my car won't start. How do i turn it off.

i would disconnect the ground battery cable for about 1 minute and then reconnect it, then try and start the car, hopefully the light will have went out. and hopefully car starts.

Over heating and radiator leaks. overheats after sitting at idle for around ten minutes. its a 5 speed manual transmission 2000 chevy 2 dr cavalier.

if there is a leak then of course you will get overheating from the engine..Be very careful as this can cause permanent damage to the head gasket and it will cost a lot more to fix..First try to stop this leak before you proceed further.

What oil does a 96 Chevy Cavalier need?

you can use 10w 30.if you live in a warm or hot climate.if you live in a colder use 5w -30 oil.

Coolent leak... 96 dodge caravan

if you get an overflow through the resevior it's often times because the thermostat with stick shut causeing excess pressure. seeing is the car is not overheating this means that the trhermostat is opening but when you get that overflow it's sticking i would replace the thermostat as soon as possible to resolve this issue

You can use a wire hanger with a hook bent onto the end fairly easily if you slide it down the window and try to feel around to hook onto the lock mechanism. It may take a bit of patience, but I got into my 2000 with not too much trouble. Then do what I did immediately afterwards - get another key cut to keep in your wallet...
