98 gmc heater doesn't work all the time

if your heater fan blows all the time when you turn the switch on, then check the heater control valve under the hood right before the heater core. its inline with your heater hoses going into the heater core. the valve opens one way and closes the other way as you turn the switch from hot to cold.

Heater won't turn off when it is turned off

Usually a sign of a faulty blend door actuator under the dash. The blend doors direct air thru the heater core and vents.

When i first turn on my heater i have nice hot air but over a period of 5-10min air goes cold. Turn off the heater and turn it back on air is hot again but goes cold like before any ideas????

All I can think of is something is plugging up your heater core. When you turn it on--the coolant tries to rush into the heater core (which in case you didn't know is behind your glove box) and it pushes said obstruction to the point where it closes off the line.

When you shut the heater off--the coolant is not trying to pass tthough the heater core any longer--so the obstruction follows gravity to the lowest point away from the heater core.

I dunno, very strange.

How come heater fan wont blow

there are a few things that will cause this problem.
1. it could be the heater fan fuse
2. could be the heater fan motor itself
3, a bad switch or relay

check the fuse and then check for voltage at the heater motor itself, if you have voltage at the heater motor,, give the heater motor box a love tap with your hand and see if it starts to turn, if it does not turn or even if it does ( after tapping it ) - it is time to replace the heater motor.

Check the fuses, but you'll probably have to replace the fan motor, that's an old car.
