1995 Honda Accord V6 failed smog due to VSS. Changed the VSS now car wont start. Smokes and smells of gas.
After changing the VSS I drove the car bag to re-test. Failed again but this time had additional problems that were not there initially. P0441 EVAP Control System Incorrexct Purge Flow, P0401 EGR Flow Insufficient Detected and P0725 Engine Speed Input Circuit Malfunction. On the way home from the re-test my car kinda acted like it was gonna stall (but it did not stall). I pulled over and sat for a minute, the car made like a coughing noise, I continued driving for a block, parked the car and it has not started since. It acts like it was to start, but then I think it floods out.

Par for the course. there are no 1995 reliable cars. none. well, unless you make one your self. With cars, you have 2 choices: 1: make the parts guy rich and me the mech. 2: or the dealers fat commission checks every 3 years. Id go #1, every time...
many parts on the car give out at 100k and the engine at 300k; this is called entropy (v2) its 18 years old i bet the VSS blew out 100k miles ago and is really 234k, maybe. on many cars i restore, at 18yo ,its on its 3rd speedo cluster.. cheap speedometer guts, dont last on rice burners... The car will need brakes, belts and fluids its whole life, (see operators guide)
yo said it wont go go at all, but you failed to say was it the engine power limited, or the transmission wont shift up.? called stuck in 1st or 2nd gear or the tranny slips. the RPM goes very high and you dont go that is a bad trannsmission. A/T?
The monitor have reset,,To reset the monitor you need to drive a certain way,You will need 2 cold start up, then a shut down and another cold start up,Better yet go down the Conejo grade dont coast it ,You will also need more than 1/4 tank of gas for the evap to run.
it can be complicated to pass the smog test! check your gas cap. thats the most common reason for a fail! they will not tell you that. you can have it code read at any autozone or advance auto for free if your check engine lights on.[only] otherwise you're at the mercy of the only garage you trust. it may be a bad 02 sensor, you have 2 [cost around $75.00]each. it may be stopped up catalytac convertor,do you smell rotten eggs when driving or at idle? thats a sign of bad convertor. good luck and thank you for choosing fixya.com
stand infront of your car, open hood and look at transmission assembly, Vss is neardown the throttle body, and for sure , it is two wired sensor, yellow and orange,,(yellow wire connected to ignition on)
Usually the VSS - You can check the code by jumping the "test wire/plug" located behind the pass side plastic kick panel on the lower right. It has a blue tip, place a small wire or a paper clip in the terminals to make a connection. Turn your key forward two clicks to the ACC (not start). Count how many times your "D" light flashes. If it flashes 4 times, you need the VSS changed.
Go to eBay and type: 93 Accord VSS
It's cheap there, Autozone charges over $100.
If it's not that then consider a malfunction in your TCU (Transmission Control Unit) located under the pass side floor carpet by where they put their feet. It's the smaller of the 2 control units. Sometimes there are 2 capacitors that burn out in there. You'd need a Phillips screwdriver to take the TCU apart to look at the circuit board, etc.
If it's not that then consider changing your trans fluid, wiping the magnet tip drain bolt clean and cleaning your shift solenoids. You'll need about 2.5 quarts and it must say Import or Honda Approved on the ATF container. HONDA DOES NOT RECOMMEND GETTING A TRANSMISSION FLUSH. Good luck...
First you must check to see what missing. You must have spark at the pugs and gas at the injector for this car to start. See whats missing and get back to me. The 1995 Honda Accord has a history of bad distributor. If there is no spark at the spark plugs replace distributor. However on some models the coil is separate and not in the distributor, if so make sure the coil is working.
