Disconnect the auxiliary power cable from the under-hood distribution center that runs to the anti-lock brake controller. Remove the ignition relay from this distribution center (this will isolate/eliminate/indicate the problem as the ignition switch). Unplug any GPS add-on device, and any radar detector, stereo amplifier add-on, I-pod, trailer brake controller add-on, anything that did not come on the truck from the factory. These can be frustrating.

I have a 2003 sopercrew with 5.4 The battery o was told tested good but it still is dead some of the mornings ? No lights , radio, or accessories left on

Possible intermittant internal short inside the battery causing this issue. The life expantancy of an automotive battery is 5yrs. Anything older can cause problems. Also possible intermittant parasitic draw causing the battery to deplete. If the battery is old I would suggest starting with a replacement and go from there.

Battery draining out checked alternator lights radio etc please advise new battery fitted aswell

You need to do a parasitic draw test with a amp meter hooked up in series with negative battery post an negative battery cable ! Check how much draw there is an then pull fuse's till you see the draw go away . Find a wiring diagram of power flow for that circuit to see what all is powered by that fuse . What could cause a parasitic draw from the battery in the ignition cercuit?

You have to close the door and leave them closed for 5 to
20 min depending on what relay has to time out

Usually just a delayed accy relay

Window,Roof & Radio

Sometimes they drops out when a
front door opens

On the Parasitic CURRENT Draw, you measuring
Current NOT Voltage,so you need to be in series
with either battery cable

Go to You Tube Video to see how that is done

When you have no problems you will see 40 to 80
Mili Amps for the clock on the radio & the computer
RAM (random access memory)

Parasitic draw through fuse #19 in 1998 blazer LT 4 door

Try disconnecting the radio and see if it still draws the drain. The clock and radio pre-sets and the computer memory only use a small amount, in the milliamps range. Are you getting more than that through the test light? Kind of sounds like it, but you might want to check the actual amperage draw.

If you have a test light available disconnect the negative cable and connect the test light to the cable and to the battery. If it lights up you have a parasitic load.Something is using power when it shouldn't be. A very dim light or acceptable parasitic draw is about. .015 amps depending on vehicle options it could be all the way up .025amps. If the test light is pretty bright it has a large load pulling it down. Finding parasitic draws can be quite time consuming. You can leave the test light connected and start pulling fuses one at a time till the light goes out or gets very dim. This can help you find what circuit is causing the draw. Once you find that particular circuit you will need to find out what services that circuit supports. Example the cigarette lighter may run the accessory lights such as the dome. You will need to find out what is on the circuit to start figuring out which component is dragging the battery down.

I have a loose ignition switch that I believe is causing my battery to drain over night. I had my battery fully tested as well as my alternator and they both turned out to be good. So could the ignition...

Yes, the ignition switch could be the problem. If it's loose it could be leaving the switch contacts in the "accessory" position which will drain the battery.

I bought a brand new starter, alternator, and battery new batteries keep dying out

You have a drain on the battery somewhere. It could be as simple as your glove box light staying on when the door is closed.

The easiest way to find the problem is to set a meter in line to monitor amperage draw, then pull individual fuses until you find the circuit responsible for the power draw. After you identify the circuit, you can inspect it closer to see why it is pulling power.

If you don't believe you can chase down the power draw, any shop would be able to hunt down the problem for you, but sometimes electrical issues can be time-consuming to identify the problem.

Buick century 2003, slow drain overnight, wont start in morning

To know for sure you need to do parasitic draw testing ! Not looking for a magical fix on here . has anyone ran into any issues that may cause drain, like glove box light switch etc,???? In my thrity years of repairing vehicles have seen a lot of thing's cause this problem .Back in the 80's when i first started at chevy dealer saw glove boxes stuff full ,to the point light would stay on . These day's more like a module not powering down when it's suppose to. Hooking up a amp meter between the neg. battery post and neg. cable an checking amp draw. If it's over 80 miliamps you have a draw on the electrical system. Pulling fuse's till the draw goes away . find what all that fues powers and isolate the different circuits till the draw goes away . That's kind of the long way now a days . There is a much easier way ,voltage drop testing accross the fuse's .
