2003 jeep liberty shuts down after about 10 minutes, blows 20 amp fuse to oxygen sensor, fuel injectors, fuel pump, etc

Something is causing too many amps to be generated through this circuit.  It shuts down in time that components are still working (yea) but one or more of the components on this fuse is requiring too much amperage and tripping the fuse from the total combined amperage being more than designed.  The fuse is there to protect a problem like this from destroying other components or causing a safety hazard. If something were completely shorted, the amperage would go too high immediately and blow the fuse immediately not after 10 minutes.  One nonfunctioning or poorly functioning component could cause others to work overtime, which would drive up amperage over time in the fuel mixing delivery system and blow the fuse.  Sounds like you have replaced the fuse and that didn't work and it would be good to check with a more knowledgeable on than me on the sensor/ feedback control series of operation of this system and things that could have a bearing on this system like a clogged fuel filter, in a 2003 Jeep liberty. It would be good to know if this is something you could check yourself, or if it is part of a computerized system that needs to be diagnosed by a computer in a shop.

I have a mechanic working on it now. But he doesn't have access to a computer to diagnose the problem. I originally took the vehicle to him because it was overheating. He found that the heads were warped. He pulled the engine, replaced the heads, head gaskets, water pump and few other things. I was not having this issue with the Jeep before he made the repairs. He has discussed this issue with several other mechanics in the area, they also are scratching there heads. He has replaced the fuse several times.
Could it be possible there is a wire exposed, grounding or shorting out and causing the fuse to blow, to protect other components as you mentioned?

Could be a faulty fuel pump. As the pump warms up, when you have a faulty fuel pump they will tend to seize up. When it fails check the fuel pressure with a fuel pressure gauge and see what it reads.

30amp auto shutdown fuse blows is it alternater

The ASD relay supplies battery voltage (12+ volts) to the fuel injectors and ignition coil(s). With certain emissions packages it also supplies 12-volts to the oxygen sensor heating elements. The Fuel Pump Relay is a separate relay controlled by the ASD relay input to the PCM. Fuse #12 (10amp) provides 12 volts to the coil side of both the relays and the ignition switch. Fuse #6 (30 amps) supplies 12 volts to the output side of the relay. Fuse #16 (15 amp) from the relay output to the Oxygen Sensors and Fuse #26 (15 amp) relay output to the PCM. Fuse #24 (20 amp) is Fuel pump relay output to fuel pump. Fuse #19 (10 amp) supplies 12 volts direct to the PCM.
look for burned or melted wires in the offending circuit.
sounds like you wiggled a wire while installing new relay.

Underhood fuse block swap out relay #7 thats the ECM relay.
Ground Circuits Using a DVOM, touch negative voltmeter lead to a good ground. Touch positive voltmeter lead to each ground terminal. With vehicle running, voltmeter should indicate less than one volt. If reading is greater than one volt, check for open, corrosion and loose connection on ground lead. See ECM GROUND LOCATION table for ECM ground location.

No spark and no gas now what

Hi,

If you have no spark and no fuel pump operation,I would strongly suspect the Auto Shut Down relay.
The Auto Shut Down (ASD) Relay supplies power to the ignition coil, fuel injector, electric fuel pump, and the oxygen sensor heater element as long as the key is in the START or RUN position and the Single Module Engine Controller (SMEC) is receiving a reference signal from the distributor.
If the SMEC receives no distributor reference signal for two seconds or more the SMEC interrupts power to the ignition coil, fuel injectors, electric fuel pump, and the oxygen sensor heater element by removing the ASD relay ground.

Thanks for contacting Fixya.

1996 Jeep Cherokee Sport bogs down

I just posted a simular resonse in another post. What is sounds like it that the fuel pump is starting to go bad. When it heats up after use the pressure drops not pusing the full amount of fuel. Whenits cold it works fine until it heats back up 10-20 mins. remember fuel in the tank helps cool the pump so keep it soewhat full but sounds like the damage is done. your probally gonna have to replace it.

Jeep liberty gas mileage

when was the last time you put in fuel injector cleaner? I put in Lucas Oil Injector cleaner every other or every oil change.

There are alot of factors affecting your gas mileage. Tire wear, tire pressure, wheel alignment, air filter, fuel filter, spark plugs, oxygen sensors, just to name a few. So to say what you need is just shooting in the dark without more information. I would probably start with your oxygen sensors, and then perform a tuneup. If your vehicle pulls to one side or the other when driving on the highway you need to stop into the shop for a wheel alignment.
