Repair manuals always say to take the negative terminal off before working on electrical parts. You only need the negative off, not both.
Actually, it wouldn't cause a malfunction (unless it maybe had a bad short), although it might set a trouble code. But that could be erased. I have heard that many mechanics are reluctant to take battery offline on lots of newer cars, unless absolutely necessary, due to issues with computer re-learning processes. When the car leaves the shop, customers complain the car is not running right, but if battery was disconnected, the computer may require several drive cycles to re-learn its former performance.

On chevys after you fix the problem you have to disconnect the battery for a minute then reconnect it. That resets the computer and it does new search for what's wrong and if fixed doesn't find anything. Might try that.

Code p1659

ok , you scanned or Autozoned it, if latter?, fail you do.
did they write it down wrong?
the code must be told accurately, (im sure you know that)

this code needs honda only meanings, P1
Electronic Throttle Control System Control Relay Off Malfunction
blown 7.5a fuse #15?
baring a simple fuse.
read the FSM./
the FSM covers this code, what to do and to find which part is
bad , not guessing, the ECU cant tell you what part is bad or dirty.
it only tells you what tests failed.
read the FSM or take the car to any ASE certified Mechanic.
this car is Throttle by wire. technology. (a pain , the TSB proves it.)

ever heard of a TSB? all good mech read them first
here is one example, on topic. too.
quote: (look up you car, and YOUR TSBs, read them all)

MIL Comes On With DTC P1659 TSB 05-008
In cold temperatures, the MIL comes on with DTC P1659 (electronic throttle control system control relay OFF malfunction). PROBABLE CAUSE Moisture inside the throttle control relay may freeze. This would cause the relay to fail, storing DIG P1659 along with any of these DTCs: P0135: Rear Air Fuel Ratio (A/F) Sensor (Bank 1, Sensor 1) Circuit Malfunction, P0141: Rear Secondary Heated Oxygen Sensor (Secondary HO2S, Bank 1, Sensor 2) Heater Circuit Malfunction, P0155: Front Air Fuel Ratio (A/F) Sensor (Bank 2, Sensor 1) Heater Circuit Malfunction, P0161: Front Secondary Heated Oxygen Sensor (Secondary H025, Bank 2, Sensor 2) Heater Circuit Malfunction, P0498: Evaporative Emission (EVAP) Canister Vent Shut Valve Control Circuit Low Voltage. CORRECTIVE ACTION Replace the electronic throttle control relay, the air/fuel sensor relay, and the starter cut relay.

2kd-ftv engine problem p1226 fuel line malfunction

Possible causes of the P1226 code include:
  • Faulty electric throttle control actuator, throttle position sensor 2
  • Faulty throttle control actuator harness is open or shorted, throttle position sensor 2
  • Electric throttle control actuator circuit has poor electrical connection, throttle position sensor 2
To nail down the exact cause of the code, do a visual inspection for lose wires and connections at the sensor, or damage to the sensor body itself. If no problems with the wiring and connections are detected, a worn/damaged electric throttle control actuator is likely at fault. Signs of a bad throttle control actuator include erratic acceleration, and unresponsive throttle, and poor fuel economy.

I have on 01 xterra-service engine light on-codes P1126 & P0325. I think the battery is about to go,could it be realated to codes? Otherwise what do the codes mean? Appreciate any help

Your battery has nothing to do with these codes. Your vehicles computers have detected a malfunction or failure in the system. This triggers these codes and sets your check engine light. Below I have listed the code meanings and some repair solutions.

P1126 - Throttle Position (Narrow Range) Sensor Circuit Malfunction.

Power supply for the throttle control motor is provided to the ECM via throttle control motor relay. The throttle control motor relay is ON/OFF controlled by the ECM. When the ignition switch is turned ON, the ECM sends an ON signal to throttle control motor relay and battery voltage is provided to the ECM. When the ignition switch is turned OFF, the ECM sends an OFF signal to throttle control motor relay and battery voltage is not provided to the ECM.

Possible Causes For P1126:
- Harness or connectors (Throttle control motor relay circuit is open)
- Throttle control motor relay

P0325 - Knock Sensor Circuit Malfunction

The knock sensor is attached to the cylinder block. It senses engine knocking using a piezoelectric element. A knocking vibration from the cylinder block is sensed as vibrational pressure. This pressure is converted into a voltage signal and sent to the Powertrain Control Module (PCM) or Electronic Control Module (ECM).

Possible Causes For P0325:
- Knock sensor circuit short to ground.
- Knock sensor circuit short to power.
- Knock sensor circuit open.
- Damaged knock sensor.
- Damaged PCM or ECM

Possible Solutions:
- Repair or resecure harness or connector
- Replace knock sensor Bank 1 (Bank 1 if applicable)
- Replace PCM or ECM

The P0325 DTC is a very common problem with Nissan vehicles. On most Nissan vehicles the knock sensor is located on top of the engine block.

93 Buick Skylark is idling really high. New computer was installed, new throttle control sensor, and idle air sensor. It is still idling too high. Throttle control was cleaned and it is still idling high....

Idling high in the skylark could be something to do with throttle control, or idle air control valve, other possibilities could be a vacuum leak or mass air flow sensor, it could also be a faulty system recently replaced. When you vehicle idles high it means it is getting more fuel than its suppose to in the fuel/air mixture, most times to much fuel in the mixture is caused by a leak or malfunction in the air delivery not allowing the appropriate amount of air in.
