Most likely a connection problem but the alternator may not be charging the battery if it is going bad

Check the connections on your startermotor are all ok... mainly earthing... try using your jumpers to ground the engine to your battery... and hey try push starting... dont need a starter motor that way and lets you know if the engine is ok

I have a 1983 Ford Ranger, When I try to start it all the light and radio work, but it wont turn over at all their isn't even a click. I have replaced the the key switch, starter solenoid, starter.

As simple as it sounds, make sure the transmission is in PARK. Also, there might be a fuse that goes to the starter. Might even be a loose ground/hot wire from the primary electrical system.

Does my 6 cylinder 3.0 engine need replaced on my 2001 ford ranger?

If you ran the engine for 20 minutes with no oil, it has likely been damaged significantly and has locked up. Surely you would have had a low oil pressure light. First step will be to see if the engine even turns or not.

Fix my ford ranger

Have the battery load tested. Sounds like while the battery has the 12 volts to run the lights it does not have the Amps to turn the starter. The clicking is from the starter solinoid.

1999 Ford Ranger radio is dead. Any ideas?

Sounds a lot like it's been under water.
I found unplugging things 1 at a time and reconnecting shaves the corrosion off. Check the Earth wire as well. Door sensor sounds like it's slightly out of alignment.

Solonoid vs. Starter?

Turn on the dome light in your truck and crank the engine. If the light goes out, the battery is probably dead. If the light stays bright, it's either the connection or your starter or solenoid. The click (probably the solenoid engaging the gear to the flywheel) would lead me to believe the solenoid is working but the starter isn't turning. That year should have the two in one unit and since you have to replace one or the other, you could pull the whole assembly and and use a pair of jumper cables to test it.

4x4 does not respond at all on 2001 ford Ranger Edge

I have a 2001 Ford ranger edge 4x4 with the 4.0L SOHC. My 4x4 module had to be replaced before I bought the truck used. The previous owner said the module was located behind the plastic panel that is under and to the right of the glove box. Mine makes a clicking noise whenever I turn the switch to 4x4 or 4x2. That's just the solenoid switch that is inside the module working. From what I've heard it's pretty common for the modules to get corroded from moisture over time in that location. Hope this helps. God bless

Mini van wont start

Sounds like starter selanoid, but first make sure battery connections are clean and tight, if sure they are then turn on headlights and try to start if still clicks and lights dim its starter.

Truck won't start, lights, gauges, radio works, loud clicking ( like a woodpecker ) noise coming from down under engine area

sounds like your starter has a dead spot. time to replace. you can try to get it going by having someone hold the key in the start position and tapping the starter with a small hammer. Just make sure the truck is in park and has the hand brake on for safety. If this works, you just saved a tow charge.
