SOURCE: I have a 1997 Mercury Villager which has a obd

without having a scanner in front of me(i have one at work and also snap-on shopkey) i work on alot of ford cars and usually the egr is not the problem-the DPFE SENSOR usually is. they are known to go bad on fords and sometimes the replacement part is an "updated" part which fixes the problem.the DPFE is a square or rectangular black plastic piece with one electrical plug and 2 vacuum hoses attached to it.the 2 hoses connect to a metal pipe that will be attached to the exhaust manifold.the DPFE controls the EGR valve.also make sure the 2 hoses are not cracked or disconnected.also check the vacuum hose going to the EGR( if there is one).by the way the 2 rubber hoses connected to the DPFE are NOT normal vacuum hoses.they are special high-heat hoses.

SOURCE: replaced timing belt on 1997 mercury villager. it

The timing marks are generally tiny arrow located on the gears which hold the timing belt. Make sure the arrows are pointing up and you should be close enough to get the vehicle started and to a garage for minor adjusting with a timing light. Unless of course you have one of those timing lights.

My 1997 mercuery villinger is losing water somewere and the front windshield is getting steamy but the tempture gauge is not going up could it be my water pump

it could be the pump, it could also mean you have leaking hose or hose connection, it could also indicate you have stuck thermostat.

AT worst it could mean a head gasket of the engine is burst and coolant is getting into the piston areas.

Suggest you find problem before you damage engine! $$$$$
