Question about 1997 Volvo S90
Flashing arrow on dash, winter, economy and sport mode lights flashes, sometimes the speedometer does not work. No abs light or any other indications. Changed speed sensor in rear diff (twice)

the ring you mention removed is called the exciter ring and is a vital part of the abs system to work properly so have new ring fitted asap this is why abs light etc is on in the uk this would fail mot safety test i am surprised the garage?? did ot renew this exciter ring? knowing it affects the abs ie makes it none operational should it need to operate ? also if involved in accident? and car brakes are checked this serious fault may have an effect on insurance claim hope this explaines??

Usually the ABS computer knows what it is doing. You may want someone to hookup a scanner to the ABS test port.
When I had my speedometer and odometer act up, it turned out to be a bad alternator. You might want to check yours.
