Question about Mitsubishi Passenger
Please anyone help.. I was driving to office from home when my Pajero NP EXCEED 2003 Turbo diesel stop all of a sudden. Engin was running fine no change in voice but my Gear was not engaging. I pulled the car to the side of the road and tried to put first Gear but no response Engine run but no power to wheels. Put in Second Gear but no result.
I toe the Pajero to a mechanic who told me there is a cluch problem and ask for $1800. I ask him to go ahead but next day he called me and says that Flywheel also damged and ask for $3500.
I have feeling that mechanic is trying to rip me off. Please advise. i ll be gratefull to u all.
****** RED ALERT ****** RED ALERT ********
Sounds to me like he's trying to rip you off mate, If i was you I'd be switchin mechanics but hey look like you know some stuff first and put him in his place... the best thing you could do in this situation is call up your local car goods store, here in australia I know i use either Supercheap, Repco or Walkers... Dunno where you are tho or what you got around... tell them that your after a quote for a clutch/flywheel kit and get a price on that... The $1800 I can understand maybe if he originally quoted you for both clucth and flywheel as I beleive they are sold together anyhows (Don't quote me on that :P) however even if they are not the largest sum of money is going to the mechanic... for him to replace the clutch would take him maybe two hours... tops... for him to replace the clutch and the flywheel... well... they're smack bang ontop of eachother so i'd say it'd take him about two hours 5 minutes or sumthin like that... get my drift... even if he had to pay like $1000 extra for the parts (which is basically impossible... just giving you an idea)... he's still full of it.
Call up ur local spare parts dealer, get the prices for the actual parts, call him back and say somthin like... how do you expect me to pay $3000 for labor... the parts only cost $500 :P and see what he has to say, then take his arse to the leagal mob and get him hung up to dry.
Put it like this... I got mine done by a mechanic simply cuz i was working 6 days a week 13 hours a day and didnt have the spare time to do it myself... it cost me abour $920 or sumthin like that... and even then I wasnt exactly happy... thats $AUS too which may be alot less where every ur from so yeah... watch out... call around some other mechanics even to get some quotes... just dont trust that... it sounds like a bunch of bull to me... GOOD LUCK and lets see you fry his *** legaly
