First of all lets just check that its the engine... Do you have good, full, clean oil... ahhhhh.... ahhhhh. if not then you may have damaged your engine... but ohhhhhh oil... cant over state the importance of good, quality oil...If its an older car then hey... maybe its just near the end of its like, these things happen... time for a rebuild or replace (or just bear through with the noise).

Now on a more positive note... is it really the engine... i get a really annoying clunking noise that im just too lazy to fix... well i get two actually one is my exause shaking against the body of my car but that dosnt sound like its coming from my engine so lets rule it out... the other is just a lose bolt on my alternator... the point im making here is that the noise may be coming from around the engine but not from the engine itself... chech nothing is hitting up against anything... check your belts are all tight and in good condition and yeah... once again... Oil... Good High Quality oil... and that oil stableiser stuff they got out now days is great for masking annoying noises... oh and it helps your engine too ;) best of luck and let me know how it goes... also some more info could help :P

I have a 2000 caliver when I put it in gear the motor rocks and makes a clunking noise

Not such a good description the fault immediately springs to mind. Manual or auto transmission?

The motor rocking could be a misfire or a broken engine mount or a juddering clutch.

What sort of clunking noise and precisely when? as the gear is engaged or when drive is taken up?

Heard a clunk while driving diesel ford excursion now when drive and reverse don't work....any ideas what problem is?

If it is a four wheel drive check your tail shaft or drive line by securing the vehicles front wheels jack up the rear tires and in park try to rotate the drive line if you can hear the transmission sound like it is going into gear the transfer case could be damaged! If not a four wheel drive pull the transmission dipstick and look to see if the fluid is dark red or metallic grayish color if so then you're clutch disks inside the tyranny have been worn out and it needs to be rebuilt!
