SOURCE: is there a fuse/fusible link to alternator,

The wiring burning up at the altenator most likely caused the diode inside the altenator to short out. I would just replace the altenator now.

98 chevy malibu my alt isnt charging new alt batt test good cut out the fuselink on starter the alt wire runs thru firewall If i run a wire straight to the batt it is putting out 19v any suggestions

Did you check the fuse in the under hood fuse box ? GEN / BATT fuse 10amp . Is your check engine light on ? This is a computer controlled charging system , it should have four wires connected to the alternator . 1 - the heavier wire on the back ,this comes fro the starter - the one with fusible link , you could have checked for battery voltage with voltmeter ! The three other wires in the connector are the orange one ,this comes from the GEN / BATT fuse an should have battery voltage ! The last two come from the PCM - engine computer . The gray wire is the turn on signal from the PCM an the Red wire is the control from PCM ! Charging System Wiring Diagram MOTOR Magazine Article MOTOR Information Systems

Fusible link between the alternator and battery ?

Check for battery voltage at the alternator post with the car off
should be batt. voltage there. I thought the big red wire went straight
to the battery. Fuse links are all down at the starter, might be worth checking. If there is not battery voltage at the alt. you could run a wire from there to the battery but that doesn't explain what went wrong in the first place

Lincoln con wont stay started new batt new alt batt dies car shuts off wtf?

The harness from the battery to the alternator may be damaged or the harness form the firewall to the alternator may be damaged. Check fusible links by applying a gentle but firm tension on them- if they pull apart, they have failed. The area to check closest for damage is anywhere the harness goes over a sharp corner.

If equipped with an aftermarket alarm, or aftermarket stereo system- disconnect the alarm for now, and verify the stereo or other radio is attached to a switched accesory wire. If they are on a constant power source wire, they will run a battery down fast. as fast as a day or even part of a day if quiescent current draw is great enough.

Windows, most warning lights, alt stoped working same day. alt checks good on bench test

You likely have a blown fusible link wire that goes from the battery and feeds the alternator and parts of the fuse panel. If there is no link at the battery then look for a small black fuse panel that in next to the battery and test the fuses there.

Alternator f-150

replace the link between the alternator and the positive side of the battery. This is a fusable link and sometimes can cause this problem this would be the easy fix and is hard to test

Electrical. alternator fuse link keeps blowing

The wiring harness coming from the solonoid/power distribution has one small guage wire splitting into three different medium guage wires. I have ran into this problem quite often on mustangs, and what I have found that works is take the split out of it, and run all three wires with fusible links added to them straight from the solonoid

Wiring problem

Check the fusible links at the starter. One of them may be burned. You mentioned that it shuts down when you turn a corner. Check the wiring going to the ignition switch under the steering column, you may have a loose wire there as well.
