An evap code is a code that lets you know there is a problem with the evaporative emissions system. This system is what collects the fuel vapor from the fuel tank, stores it in the charcoal canister, and then burns it in the engine when the conditions are right.

There can be several codes that relate to the evap system and all of them can mean a different problem.

Most commonly the gas cap and the vent solenoid are the two most common GM failures.

Let me know if you have any other questions and I'll be happy to answer them. Thank you for using FixYa.com!

I have DTC Codes; P0441, P0442, and P0446 EVAP codes. Have had too many things replaced to name and still have codes. Originally, only had one code P0442, after the unsuccessful removal of severalevap

code p 0442 refers to evaporative emission(EVAP) system---small leak detected====causes--hose connections--intake leak--EVAP canister--EVAP canister purge valve
it also refers to --large leak detected====causes fuel cap loose, off---mechanical fault--hose connections---EVAP pressure sensor
code p 0441 refers to EVAP system--incorrect flow detected====causes hoses, intake leak-- EVAP canister purge valve
code p 0446 refers to EVAP system, vent control---circuit malfunction===causes--wiring---EVAP canister purge valve----ECM
if you can remember when the problem started ( after refueling) it may be that the cap is not fitted correctly
it could that in the fixing process , the wiring has not been correctly installed or the problem is the canister purge valve needs attention

How to fix obd2 trouble code P1680 on a 2004 Isuzu ascender 4.2l eng

code p 0300 refers to random/ multiple misfires detected ===causes --spark plug/s--HT lead/s--injector/s --ignition coil/s--low compression --wiring
most likely low fuel pressure and injector problems
code p 0442 refers to evaporative emission (EVAP) system ---small leak detected ===causes hose connection/s--intake leak-- EVAP canister ---EVAP canister purge valve
it also refers to --large leak detected ===causes ---petrol cap loose ,/missing---mechanical fault ---EVAP pressure sensor
code p 0455 refers to EVAP ---large leak detected --all those stated plus EVAP canister purge valve
code p1680 refers to electric throttle control (ETC) monitor ---processor fault ===causes --wiring--ECT monitor

My 06 cobalt has these codes can anyone tell me what they mean? Are they an expensive fix? p0446,p0455, p0172

code p0446 refers to evaporative emission (EVAP) system-vent control-circuit malfunction===causes --wiring--EVAP canister purge valve--ECM
code p0455 refers to EVAP system-large leak detected===causes --hose connections--intake leak--EVAP canister---EVap canister purge valve
code p0172 refers to system too rich, bank 1===causes intake blocked---EVAP canister purge valve--fuel pressure ---EGR system---injector/s ---ECM
because the EVAP purge valve appears in all codes I would be inclined to change that unit first the run the fault codes again

2004 Honda Pilot Evap code P1456 Changed gas cap from honda and still

code p1456 refers to evaporative emission (EVAP) canister purge system(fuel tank system) -leak detected===causes--hose-fuel tank/pressure sensor--fuel filler cap--EVAP valve /bypass solenoid--EVAP two way valve---EVAP canister/vent valve

There is also a second reference to the code which is EVAP system leakage ====filler cap--EVAP canister purge valve--hoses---EVAP canister shut off valve---ECM programming---ECM

Check with the service dealer that the filler caps are interchangeable . It may be coincidence that the problem started after you changed caps or it may have shown a failure in the making

What is a P2404 code mean from a suzuki sx4

Trouble Code: P2404 (2.0L L4 VIN 5 Automatic CVT)
Evaporative Emission System Leak Detection Pump Sense Circuit Range / Performance
Number of Trips to Set Code: 1
Trouble Code Conditions:
EVAP vent valve stuck open: EVAP leak check pressure is lower than -0.14 kPa even if EVAP vent valve is operated from OFF (OPEN) to ON (CLOSE) with EVAP leak detection pump ON. EVAP vent valve stuck closed: EVAP leak check pressure is unstable (difference between maximum and minimum is 0.36 kPa or more) when EVAP vent valve is OFF (OPEN) with EVAP leak detection pump ON. EVAP leak detection pump stuck OFF: EVAP leak check pressure is higher than -0.14 kPa even if EVAP leak detection pump is ON. EVAP leak detection pump flow high: Reference pressure of EVAP leak check pressure is lower than specified value (depending on BARO) EVAP leak detection pump flow Low: Reference pressure of EVAP leak check pressure is higher than specified value (depending on BARO).
Possible Causes:
  • EVAP leak detection pump (in EVAP leak check module) and/or its circuit
  • EVAP vent valve (in EVAP leak check module) and/or its circuit
  • EVAP leak check module and/or its circuit
  • ECM

Evap code cleared not ready showing

The EVAP monitor is a pain to set. It needs 2 full drive cycles and will not reset sometimes if an EVAP code is pending. Check the pending codes with your code tool and see if there are any for the EVAP, if not, like I said, the EVAP is a tough monitor to set.

How many other monitors are not ready?

Common causes for codes p0441

getting code p441 could be caused by evap purge solenoid vacuum line loose leaking or restricted, evap purge solenoid faulty, evap purge vacuum line to canister leaking or disconnected,evap canister failed.
