An evap code is a code that lets you know there is a problem with the evaporative emissions system. This system is what collects the fuel vapor from the fuel tank, stores it in the charcoal canister, and then burns it in the engine when the conditions are right.
There can be several codes that relate to the evap system and all of them can mean a different problem.
Most commonly the gas cap and the vent solenoid are the two most common GM failures.
