An easy way to fInd out how to fIx thIs Is one. wIl tue vehIcle start at all? If It wIll than start the car and carefully take the posItIve cable off the battery and see If the vehIcle dIes. If It does than you need to replace the alternator because the transformer In the alternator Is out. If the vehIcle does not start all the fuse may be In two places. check the fuse In the car at the fuse panel and or the fuse box under the hood.

SOURCE: How do I replace the alternator on a 1996 Nissan

This alternator has two mounting bolts, one on top (adjuster) and one at bottom (main bolt) You need to untight the top one but not completely, take the poly belt of. Than take the bottom bolt out and remove top one when holding the alternator. Put the new one in place but this time use the bottom bolt first, do not tight it completely, than put the belt on the pulley and use the top bolt. You will need to tight the bottom bolt, than pull the alternator with some bar but gentle to get the belt tight, hold it and than tight the top bolt.

What's wrong with my 2008 Nissan maxima when both brake and battery lights are both on and it wont accelerate above 40 mph?

That means that alternator is about to stop operating and has already stopped charging the battery. Your alternatives are to change it for a rebuilt, remanufactured or new alternator OR have your current one rebuilt.

Battery is not recharging. I have replaced alternator with a used one from a wrecker but the problem persists. I will do a voltage check (over 13 to 14 volts from alt) when I get a day off work. Could...

Hi, the voltage should be at least 14 at the battery with engine running. If the voltage is higher at the alternator, the charge wire or fuse is bad. If the voltage is good at the battery, the likely problem is a draw in the car. Please see my tip at . These are genericinstructions. If you get stuck or need specific instructions for your car, please get back to me with model, year and engine info.

A quick way to test an alternator is to start the engine, and disconect the battery. if the engine dies, it was running off the battery. It should cotinue to run, if it does not your alternator is not working.

02 maxima battery wont stay charged. Took to auto zone to have battery and alternator checked and they say=its fine. purchased new battery and three days later it was dead/Altenator is charging at 12.9

that seems very, very low. almost what the battery voltage is supposed to be. actually i would say that's not charging and you need to replace the alternator. normal voltage output is 13.5-15 volts

Flickering Lights

You do need an alternator. Nissan has a campaign on Maxima alternator in certain years such as 96-98 I believe. Go to your friendly Nissan dealer abd have them punch your VIN number into the NNA net. they will know and that will tell them if your vehicle applies by the VIN. I have seen the alternator on fire. There was fire inside of the alternator. Have it checked or the car can catch on fire.
