Question about 1994 Jeep Cherokee Country

No Backup lights when in Reverse

The back up lights are not working on my 04' Jeep Cherokee. The bulbs work and the fuses are in good shape. have read something about a Nuetral switch on the Transmission. Went to the parts store its $100 part. Dont want to invest in that unless im sure its the problem. Any suggestions on how to narrow it down or see if this switch is working

The part you are referring to is the range selector switch, it is on the side of the trans where the gear selector arm comes out of the trans, it moves with the shaft the arm is attached to and tells the system what gear you are in as well as turning on the backup lights when reverse is selected. You don't say what engine but I show that if you have a V8 or V6 the switch is $225.00

If bulbs good check fuse and then the reverse switch needs checking. This switch activates the light when reverse selected.

Backup lights dont work

Check the fuse and the bulbs first, if all is good then i would look at the neutral saftey switch, this is what controls the back up lights when shifter is put into reverse

Both tail lights are out brake and turn bulbs work. My fuses and switch is good but i have no juice to my tail lights

Check if your vehicle uses a backup/reverse/safety switch in the transmittion, this is the most common problem after fuses in vehicles with that type of switch - Jeep Grand Cherokee owner

I have a 95 jeep loredo . reverse light is not working , I checked the bulbs and fuses and they all good, I also change the neutral switch, still han no reverse light, any suggestion?

The neutral switch is so that you can't start your vehicle in a gear (drive, reverse, ect.) your looking to replace the backup lamp switch. Not sure where its located on your jeep but that sounds like the problem. Happy hunting!

My backup lights will not come on when i put my jeep in reverse

it proably is your neutrual safety switch. it controls your backup lights. the same thing happened to mine. then mine would not start anymore after a while. It can be removed and cleaned.

Brake and backup lights check good, but no lights, fuses good

Did you check to see whether or not the bulbs need replaced? Although it would be weird to have all the rear lights blow at once unless it shorted out somehow. I would also check under the hood for a blown fuse in the relay box.

No backup lights. Bulbs are all fine, fuses also.

Hi and welcome to FixYa,

Additionally check the reverse switch and its wiring/connectors. The reverse switch is located at the transmission. This is also part of the neutral start switch assembly. This page would give you additional insight.

Good luck and Thank you for using FixYa.

Pls be informed that due to my current rank and rating, even a Helpful wouldbe detrimental to my status. Should this solution not address yourconcern, it would be appreciated if you could just not rate it at all. Cheers.
