SOURCE: strong smell of gas inside and outside the vehicle

there can either be a hole in the tank or in the carbon filter of the fuel system. or a bad seal on a hose leading to that Carbon filter. But assuming that the smel is stronger at the rearside, it is more likely to be an issue around the gas tank. Maybe if the belly 'sat' on a rock it could be even on the upper part of the tank(but not that likely, rather a joint again)

rate please

SOURCE: gas fumes inside and out side the car when it is hot outside

Try having the area that the hose was disconnected from steamed cleaned, or go to a car wash wash and spray the area. It might help, that is if you already haven't done so.

SOURCE: fumes is coming out of the exhuust. strong smell

Does it smell like "rotten eggs" kind of a sulfur smell ?
Does it smell like "toxic high gasoline content.
One would be your emissions system, the other, fuel not "burning" properly.
Are you still getting good gas milage or have you noticed a change ?
Let me know.

We also own a 2005 chevrolet impala with strong gas fumes, inside of the car driving or just idling..also fumes are strong when the car is just idlin. Took it to the mechanic and put the car on the rack,...

I would have someone check under the front of car while engine was running. Maybe then a gas leak could be spotted. Did he check the charcoal canister-it's a gas vapor collector from the gas tank, and maybe located at front of car. If the canister is full and not working to purge the canister and send the collected fuel and vapors into the engine, it might be what you are smelling.

Gas smell coming from the driver vent.

Hi Doritelberg, If the fuel consumption of your vehicle has increased or there is any sign of a misfire, I believe that one of the injectors may be leaking. For fuel leakages on fuel injected vehicles, it is better to check while the engine is running as the fuel line is pressurized in that state. It would be helpful to know if the smell started after a fuel filter was replaced and what other symptoms, if any you are experiencing with your vehicle? Regards John

2011 town chrysler gas smell

I would check the gas cap to make sure the gasket is seating correctly on the filler neck. Also check, if you can, the filler neck from the gas cap down to the tank. If it is damaged, it could seep gas fumes. If you see no other signs of an obvious leak on the garage floor, it's likely a gasket issue in the fuel fill side of the system. It does not take much fumes to smell it strongly.

Strong gas fumes coming from 2001 windstar

The "cause" would be a fuel system or EVAP system leak. If the fumes are that strong, then I would take the vehicle back to Ford again and make the sevice manager stick his nose in it and then tell you there is no problem....

I am getting strong raw gas fumes blowing in through my vents into the cab of my 2005 Pontiac Aztec. What could be causing this and is it safe to continue driving?

If they are truly raw gas fumes you have a gas leak. DO NOT DRIVE THE CAR. It can start on fire if the gas leak is under the hood, or if it's somewhere else and someone throws a **** out the window it could start on fire too. I would have it towed to a mechanic immediately. If you are mechanically inclined and know where your fuel filter is under the hood you could check those fuel lines first to see if they are cracked or leaking. If you have jackstands you could put the car up on 4 of those and check underneath the car and inspect the lines from the tank to the filter to the engine. If you are not mechanically inclined I would air on the side of caution and take it to a mechanic ASAP. If it is exhaust you are smelling and not raw gas, it is still not safe to drive. Exhaust fumes do not take long to put you to sleep and when you go to sleep you do not usually wake up. I would get it in to get looked at before driving it again. Good Luck!

Smell of Gas When Driving

Given the age of the car, it is likely that there is a leak in the fuel line from the tank to the engine compartment. It may be leaking slowly enough to give you the smell, but not fast enough to actually drip on the ground, evaporating before dripping.. The car needs to lifted up to examine closely all lines under the car. If you can, put it up on ramps and crawl around underneath with a flashlight, NOT an electric drop light. If you can not safely get the car high enough to get a good look around, take it to a garage and get it up in the air. Tell the mechanic that you want to see the problem. Don't let them sell you a bill of goods. Insist on seeing the leak yourself. If you are lucky, you may be able to just have a section of line replaced, but it is likely that most of the line will be corroded to the point where it all needs to go. There is also a good possibility that the leak is under the hood somewhere, and the smell is drifting in through the duct work into the cabin as you drive. Also, driving with the windows may actually pull the smell into the car from under the car...Good luck. Chip
