How do i fix a skim key problem with a 99 intrepid?

SKIM is short for sentry key immobilizer module. It uses a proximity sensor and a special "sentry" key to keep people from stealing your car. They are notoriously unreliable, and can only be programmed by a dealer or authorized mechanic (TRANSLATION: expensive test equipment required). They fail in strange ways, and you can't use a "copied" generic key. If your sentry key or sensor has failed, a dealership can get you going again quickly. If there is a communication problem or other strangeness happening, it could take a few hours for the tech to sort out. 25315837-dz1fkxf1fwolart5ai0divhk-3-0.gif 25315837-dz1fkxf1fwolart5ai0divhk-3-1.jpg

Two codes p 1684 and 1685

The battery was disconnected or you may have a bad ground. The good thing that it should not effect the operation of the car. It basically lost stored data and it must get it again. However, something is preventing it which means a bad ground, PCM was replaced/bad connection, quick learn for PCM. Other than this, you need a tech who will be able to test the PCM (they need a tool to test so the connnectors are not damaged) with a test light, Fused B+ circuits and/or ground circuits. However, before doing all that, bring to an auto parts store and get them to turn the light off. That may resolve it since this is not a "problem" code.

We change the computer in our 2002 and there are 2 codes showing on the screen. P1684 & P1685

Code 1684 says the computer has lost battery voltage in the last 50 starts, and code 1685 means the security code in the key is not valid.
You may have to have the computer flashed by the dealer to match the original settings in the original computer.

Dodge obd code p0305

The DTC (Data Trouble Code) P0305 is the generic OBD-II DTC for "Cylinder 5 Mis-fire Detected", and it means that the OBD-II control unit has detected a problem with the #5 cylinder.

The problem could be a faulty spark plug, or a spark plug wire for the #5 cylinder, or the coil for that cylinder could be faulty (2.7 liter), or the distributor or distributor cap could be faulty (3.0 liter), or the fuel injector for the #5 cylinder could be faulty.

Before you look for any electrical problems causing the mis-fire on the #5 cylinder, first do a compression check to be certain that the mis-fire is not caused by a mechanical problem.

Here are the firing order diagrams for the 2.7 and the 3.0 liter enginesto help assist you.

3.0 liter

Engine codes for 2001 Chrysler Sebring P0442 455 and 1685

PO442 means you have a small leak in your EVAP system. Most common cause is a bad gas cap, replace the gas cap with a factory gas cap, after market fail or does not conform to the OEM EVAP system. Other cause would be small leaks in the EVAP vacuum lines. P0445 is also related to the EVAP system and has detected a large leak in the system. Start with the gas cap as mentioned above. P1685 Is an issue with the ignition not recognizing the ignition keys and the car's ignition immobilizer my activate leaving the car not being able to start. That's going to have to be a Dealer repair. Good luck and hope this helps.
