CV joint and/or bearings obvious first guess. You say they are good or did you actually replace already? Check entire front wheel assembly-lug nuts tight?brake caliper/rotor positioned correctly and tight?suspension tight and in good condition?any signs of rubbing indicating abnormal part travel?

SOURCE: trouble removing cv axle from 1999 pontiac grand prix

you will need to take the two bolts out of the strut that connects to the spindle backing plate.this will let the backing plate pull out enough to pull the cv axle out.

The popping could be from a bad CV axle joint, or a bad wheel bearing. Better get checked, sounds very worn. Raise the wheel on a jack and watch for play. Grab wheel at 3 and 9 o'clock, and shake back and forth-watch for play. Wheel bearing? CV joint -is boot still good? Ball joints at bottom of wheel attaching point to the control arm-check this for play, too.

Front right Wheel bearing/hub or cv assembly needed?

It sounds like it is your ball joints, but you should replace all of the bearings and joints if you are going to go through the trouble.

Grinding in front end when turning-2001 mazda tribute, ITs happens periodically

very possibly your cv joints are going out.

Try turnig the wheel all the way to the right, and give it gas, then same foir the left,,,See if it has more of a popping sound....if not its possiblely the wheel hub bearings.

Best of luck to ya.

The front left wheel makes a terrible grinding popping sound when I turn the wheel to the left. It also seems to be driving a little "weird", kind of "mushy" and loose. There is a boot...

That a CV joint you're describing. That boot protects bearing from dirt getting in and grease from getting out. You don't have to hit anything, they split with age, deteriorate and sometimes actually twist on shaft and gives the appearance like you smacked something. Replace or have someone replace CV joint and boot on that wheel and you should be good to go.

Grinding noise changes with speed stops when turned right. replaced left front wheel bearing. noise is still there. whats wrong ?

Does sound stop when you turn LEFT?

Turning RIGHT puts the heavy load on the LEFT front wheel.
That initially STOPPED the noise, correct? So why did you change L?

Turning LEFT puts the load on the RIGHT. Did you change the RIGHT?

Let's say this:
If turning RIGHT stops the noise, it's the RIGHT one that's likely bad.
If turning LEFT stops the noise, it's the LEFT one that's more likely bad.

Make sense? Turning RIGHT loads the LEFT wheel; and vice-versa as the WEIGHT SHIFTS AWAY FROM THE TURN.

More than likely it is what some folks call a CV joint problem, not wheel bearings. Try backing up and then going forward to see if "clunking sound" or a sharp "bang" is heard. Wheel bearings and CV joints only work if smooth. Sometimes a BEARING RACE is bad. Also, a bad spindle / part of the CV joint / transaxle assembly worn or badly machined. If in a WET ENVIRONMENT especially, u may want to try marine grade grease or teflon-added grease.

Does sound come from POWER STEERING PUMP area?

I am not sure if the wheel bearing on the front end is broke. it makes a loud poping noise when turning and the wheel is towed in

Loud popping/grinding most noticeably heard when turning is normally a sign of a bad CV joint. Look under the van where the axle half-shafts come out of the transaxle and connect to the backside of the wheel assembly. Are the rubber boots on the axles torn or missing?
If you hear the popping only in left turns, your right CV joint is bad, If you hear the popping only in right turns, your left CV joint is bad.

I think my front universal joint is making a noise

Your vehicle may be covered under the 100,000 mile warranty. The axles are part of the powertrain and I would see my dealer before I tried to fix anything. Good Luck

Popping and grinding noise coming from the right front tire.

it depends if you have 2WD or 4WD, probably either your CV joints, or your wheel bearing, also have your upper and lower ball joints looked at, durangos are bad for those going out. 4WD could have additional problems, like transfer case, front axle bent, and other 4WD probs. i had a similar problem and it was my wheel bearing. buy it offline, not at the parts store, it saved me $140. compared to O'riely Auto Parts.
