If it is in the solenoid itself, yes. If it is in the wiring or the computer, no. The only way to tell, is to replace the solenoid and turn off the light. Or do some extensive search in the wiring harness.

Hi, the likely problem is that your torque converter clutch (TCC) solenoid has failed and will no longer engage the clutch. However, it may be worth a try to have your transmission fluid flushed and the filter replaced, if you haven't done that recently. There is some small chance that will fix the problem. The TCC is a device in the transmission that locks the engine to the transmission once you reach highway speeds of at least 25 mph or higher. The purpose of the clutch is to conserve fuel and reduce heat in the torque converter. The car will run fine without the TCC, but will get slightly less highway mileage. There is no harm or safety concern with driving the car as it stands now. However, if you intend to keep this car and drive a lot of highways miles, it may be worth the expense to have it repaired. (you could check your mileage to see how it's doing without the clutch) The repair should be done by a transmission expert, as there are several possible reasons it has failed--I'm only guessing it's the solenoid but would HAVE to troubleshoot to be sure. The repair can be done by any reputable transmission shop--it does not have to be done at the Cadillac/GM dealer. That said, I do recommend you shop around a bit if you want to have the car repaired, as there is considerable variation in the approach to this repair. It is possible to replace the solenoid without removing the transmission, but some shops may claim you need a complete rebuild. Make sure to tell them your trouble codes--that was very helpful to me. P1860 All GM - TCC (transmission Torque Converter Clutch) PWM Solenoid Circuit Electrical.
P1860 Description The Torque Converter Clutch Pulse Width Modulation (TCC PWM) solenoid valve controls the fluid acting on the converter clutch valve. The converter clutch valve controls the TCC application and release. The solenoid attaches to the control valve body within the transmission. The solenoid receives ignition voltage through circuit 239. The Powertrain Control Module (PCM) controls the solenoid by providing a ground path on circuit 418. Current flows through the solenoid coil according to the duty cycle (percentage of ON and OFF time). The TCC PWM solenoid valve provides a smooth engagement of the torque converter clutch by operating during a duty cycle percent of ON time.
When is the code detected? When the PCM detects a continuous open, short to ground or short to power in the TCC PWM solenoid valve circuit, then DTC P1860 sets. DTC P1860 is a type B DTC.

- Torque Converter Clutch Pulse Width Modulation (TCC PWM) Solenoid harness is open or shorted
- Torque Converter Clutch Pulse Width Modulation (TCC PWM) Solenoid circuit poor electrical connection. Unless you have a factory manual and very good auto repair skills this is best left to an expert. It is a messy dirty job that requires removing the parts inside the transmission for testing..

You replaced the TCC solenoid , but did you test the electrical circuit ? Code description - DTC P1860 TCC PWM Solenoid Circuit Electrical. - YOU SEE SOLENOID CIRCUIT ELECTRICAL - no where does it say to replace the solenoid . TEST THE ELECTRICL CIRCUIT ! P0306 should set right away if misfire is present . P0306 cylinder # 6 misfire !
The TCC PWM Solenoid Valve controls the fluid acting on the converter clutch valve, which then controls the application and release of the TCC. The solenoid attaches to the control valve body within the transmission. Circuit 439 supplies ignition voltage directly to the solenoid. The PCM controls the solenoid by providing a ground path on circuit 418. Current flows through the solenoid coil according to the duty cycle (percentage of ON and OFF time). The TCC PWM Solenoid Valve provides a smooth engagement of the torque converter clutch by operating during a duty cycle percent of ON time.
When the PCM detects a continuous open or a short to ground in the TCC PWM circuit or the TCC PWM Solenoid Valve, then DTC P1860 sets. DTC P1860 is a type A DTC.
Diagnostic Aids

Inspect the wiring for any poor electrical connections at the PCM. Inspect the wiring at the transmission 20-way connector. Look for the following conditions:

A chafed wire

A broken wire inside the insulation

When diagnosing for an intermittent short or an open condition, massage the wiring harness while watching the test equipment for a change

  1. Install the scan tool.
  2. With the engine OFF, turn the ignition switch to the RUN position.
  3. Important: Before clearing the DTCs, use the scan tool in order to record the Freeze Frame and the Failure Records for reference. The Clear Info function will erase the data.
  4. Record the DTC Freeze Frame and the DTC Failure Records.
Are DTCs P0753, P0758, P1860, P1864, or P1886 set?

  2. Disconnect the transmission 20-way connector (additional DTCs may set).
  3. Install the J 39775 Jumper Harness on the engine harness connector .
  4. With the engine OFF, turn the ignition switch to the RUN position.
  5. Connect a lest lamp from the J 39775 Jumper Harness connector cavity E to ground.
Does the test lamp illuminate?

Repair the open in the ignition feed circuit 439 to the TCC PWM Solenoid Valve. Refer to Electrical Diagnosis, Section 8.

  2. Using the scan tool, command the TCC PWM Solenoid Valve ON and OFF 3 times.
Does the test lamp illuminate when you command the TCC PWM Solenoid Valve ON, and turn OFF when you command the valve OFF?

Circuit Description with 4T80-E Automatic Transaxle
Ignition voltage is provided to the torque converter clutch pulse width modulated (TCC PWM) solenoid valve. The PCM controls the ON and OFF time of the solenoid by providing a ground through the output driver module (ODM) . The PCM uses a PWM duty cycle, in order to control application and release of the TCC. When the solenoid is commanded OFF, the PCM senses high volts. When the solenoid is commanded ON, the PCM senses low volts. If the PCM detects a continuous open, short to ground or short to voltage in the TCC PWM solenoid valve circuit, then DTC P1860 sets. DTC P1860 is a type B DTC.

Conditions for Running the DTC
  • The system voltage is 8-18 volts
  • The engine run time is greater than 5 seconds.
  • The TCC PWM solenoid valve duty cycle is 10% or less or 90% or greater.
Conditions for Setting the DTC
The TCC PWM solenoid valve feedback circuit indicates a continuous open, short to ground or short to voltage for 4.3 seconds.
