Thanks yes already checked water level is at the top of the neck of the expansion tank bottle , do you think it might be the Temp gauge ? I have tried to free the float on it but not sure if I did this right , I just pocked around inside of the bottle to feel if I could make the float free , but the light still comes on with the same message LOW ENGINE COOLANT ,can anybody help ?

take the plug off the sensor and see if the light goes out , if not jump the 2 wires with a paper clip, if the light goes off then the float in the reserve is broken

SOURCE: Adding coolant to a 1998 Jaguar XK8

if the coolant light is on or comes on when driving you MUST let the car cool down at lest 1 hour before doing anything, after this cool down time lift the hood [u.s.a.] or bonnet [uk] looking from the front of the car on the right hand side towards the back of the engine compartment is the coolant header tank, about 5inch square black in color [u.s.a.] colour [uk] with a large screw top and some rubber pipes coming from it,this should be topped up with coolant right to the neck of the screw cap when you remove the cap to top up the coolant unscrew it slowly as it may be under pressure you don't want hot 212F[u.s.a.] 100C [uk] coolant in your face do you.good luck.

SOURCE: My 1998 Jaguar XK8 coolant light goes on, but

the part that will trigger the coolant lights is the temperature sensor, when it going bad it tend to give the computer a wrong temperature sensing and cause the light to trigger on and off. Have your temperature sensor replace. thermostats and thermostats switch is good idea to have it change every 65-75k miles in the jaguar.

Reoccuring Coolant Leak - Now major leak

The Jaguar XK8 has a coolant hose on the rear of the engine that is prone to leaking. The leak is typically on the right side, right above the catalytic converter. There is a quick disconnect fitting that has an o-ring in it. This O-ring fails with age, and the coolant leaks from the connector.

My 1998 Jaguar XK8 coolant light goes on, but there is not problem with the coolant system, or sensor

it sounds as if you have an old code stored and its popping up if there is nothing wrong with the sensor try unhooking the battery for about 5minutes then hooking it up if that dosent prevent it from coming on again you will need some one to clear the code out of the computer.

MY 99 XK8 CONVERTIBLE WINDOWS GO DOWN 1/4 '' EVERYTIME YOU OPN THE DOOR BUT NOT WILL GO UP AUTOMATICALLY,AS DESIGNED TO DO.HOWEVER THEY WILL GO UP IF YOU RAISE THEM WITH THE SWITCH INSIDE THE CAR,BOTH...

It just needs resetting.Hold each window switch down until you hear a click at the top and then go down all the way and hold until it clicks at the bottom of its travel.A low battery will cause this sometimes or a  battery change.Tony/Hills Motors, San Mateo, CA

On xk8 the coolant level indicator is showing - can i top up with water or do i need coolant. are there any follow ups required?

The only time you should use water is in emergencies only, always use coolant specific to your brand of car. The cooling system is a closed system needing only periodic maintenance, the fact that the indicator light is on I would take it for a check up.

Failsafe engine mode light comes on, codes

Just a quick mention - for about a month my XK8 low coolant light came on intermittently. This week with no notice while driving normally I got Stability Control Fail and FailSafe Engine Mode and wtih great difficulty got the car back to where I started from (less than a mile). Two days later (when got time) and after a bit of research, I tried it again - same problem and a very unhappy engine. I then disconnected the battery for 15 minutes (probably more) to clear the engine codes as well as check all the wiring and vacuum stuff I could under the hood (at a Jaguar master mechanic's recommendation). No problems found but the car would start and immediately stall with the air intake hose disconnected from the intake butterfly. After I reconnected the air intake hose, she started and purred like normal. The problem is the BATTERY... It is low - I've known it for a LONG time BUT it always started right up and never skipped a beat. I intend to replace it tonight but fully expect that's the issue. I've had the car 6 years (it's a 98) and had NO problems except a dead taillight asembly.

Hope this is of value...

How do I add coolant to my 1998 Jaguar XK8?

There is a tank separate from the radiator, add the coolant there, follow the hoses from the radiator to the tank.
