Disreguard the guy asking about your 4wd light being that it's a 1974 you most likely don't have that light. even if you did you don't have a shift actuator. What transfer case do you have and dumb question, but do you have your front driveshaft in the truck?

What transfer case do you have? If it is the 241C like my suburban, then to get to 4lo the the position of the shifter should be all the way back close to the seat.

How do I get my 1996 Chevy Blazer out of 4 wheel drive? It is stuck.

If it is electronic push button I would go down on side of transfer case and check the control module. It is common for them to go bad. I have taken them off and taken a wrench and taken them manually out of 4 wheel drive to get them home. Module is on Driver side of transfer case. Make sure your dash switch is good, however that module would be my guess. You also have a plunger in the front axle that engages the 4 wheel, that locks the hubs check that as well.

Warn hubs, installation

Warn Hubs Installation
A truck or SUV with a four-wheel drive suspension uses locking hubs on the front wheels to engage or disengage the front axle shafts from the hubs. This way, you can drive the truck normally with just rear-wheel drive, or engage four-wheel drive mode when you want to drive off-road. These hubs can wear out, and one improvement is to install a set of Warn hubs. Installing a set of Warn hubs takes about an hour.
1.Park the truck and put on the parking brake. Lift the front of the truck with the jack and put the jack stands under the front axle. Take off the front wheels with the tire iron and put them to the side.
2.Disengage the locking hubs using your hands by turning the knob on the hubs. Remove the snap rings holding the hub locks in place with the snap-ring pliers. Pull the hub off the axle.
3.Install the lock ring wheel from the Warn hub kit in the axle with the factory snap ring and the snap-ring pliers.
4.Make sure the Warn locking cap dial is turned to the "Free' position. Install the locking cap onto the lock ring wheel and hub body with a hex-head key. Reinstall the front wheels with the tire iron and lower the vehicle off the jack stands with the jack.

I have a 2000 4wd tacoma with manual locking hubs and the 4wd does not seem to be engaging after locking the hubs and shifting the lever into 4 hi or 4 low

Sounds like one of your hubs is sticking and not engaging. You can check them by engaging the hubs and the transfer case and jacking up each front wheel independently if it doesn't spin your good, if it does you found your problem. As far as fixing a hub goes, it may be just dry and need some grease, or there are some very good aftermarket hubs available from Warn.
Hope this helps

2004 Ford F-150 extended cab FX4. 4WD problem

Your front hubs are automatic locking hubs, and the gears are hard nylon. These hubs break very easily, therefore causing you to lose your front wheel drive in 4 high, or 4 low. If you replace the hubs with "WARN (name brand) " manual locking hubs, you will never have the issue again. Of course, you will have to get out of the truck and manually lock the hubs, but they are metal gears, and much more durable. I've personally seen the issue several times, and changing the hubs has resolved the issue every time.

95 chevy blazer 4wheel drive problem

I now these trucks pretty well, I own 2, a 2000 two door and a 95 4 door and before them I owned a 88 and an 87, so look I suggest you use 4 hi but in low geer(1st geer) and just let it grab by itself, cause I find first thing it's hard getting into 4 low cause you must be in neutral, and I usually engage it with only the ignition on without actually running the truck to make sure it actually engages, we get a lot of snow up here so I'm letting experience speak for itself, hope it helps...

goodluck...
