SOURCE: coolant leak

has your car over heated because it sounds like it has and caused the crack in whatever is leaking to get bigger. I would put a hose in the filler hole and turn it on just enough to allow a little water to run out and look for where the leak is coming from and go from there.

SOURCE: coolant leak/head gasket

it is possible that the higher rpm is creating more pressure in the cooling system and forcing the antifreeze into the cylinder, if you know how, do a compression test on the engine and observe the plugs as you pull them for moisture..............however i am thinking that you may have to wait until the problem with the smoke gets worse in order to determine which cylinder is leaking

SOURCE: chevy cavalier 1997 2.2 coolant leak

Thankyou for the reply post. I found it was the water pump and just because it appears that the weap hole is at the top of the water pump it is in fact there is one at the bottom. But with further inspection and replaceing the water pump I was informed that I have a head gasket leak at the front of the engine. It is at this time small. And will require $$$$$$$$ ( $ 800.00 to $ 1300.00 est. ) to repair, I paid only $700.00 for the car and to this day have put in $1100.00 to it. But I love the car! But if can survive till the taxes come next year, I can do it. Baby it and don't drive it much, God willing it will be ok.

1998 cadillac deville leaking coolant, temperature was around 196 and when leaking started temperature has gone as high as 225, what is causing this problem?

This most certainly sounds like a water pump issue. The thermostate is located inside the water pump housing and if the pump is bad you'l lose fluids and need to add every day or so. The temp guage will run hot and often the heater won't warm up. You have even notice fluids on the ground below the front passenger side of the car. Try getting a pressure test first before replacing anything. That's a good place to start the diagnosis.

have your cooling system pressure tested, that should give a place to start as to where the leak is and how much it is going to cost to have the problem fixed

I have a pink fluid leak that looks like its coming from above the trans, where would this leak be coming from?

do you have a 3.1 or a 3.4 liter V-6?

If so my first guess is that the lower intake gaskets are leaking. These are very common to fail on these motors. If you look under the thermostat housing ad see a pool of red coolant, Or you see the trail of coolant if you look down back behind the throttle body than that will usually confirm the problem.

You can also have leaking throttle body heater hoses, Or the hoses to the heater core may be leaking as well.

Coolant leak top rear of engine near throttle body 1996 3.4 lumina vpv

Most of the time when I see coolant leaking at the rear/top of the 3400 engine, beneath the throttle plate area, it's usually coming from the intake gaskets. There is a coolant cross-over passage at the rear of both heads and as time passes the gasket will sometimes split along the sides of this passage and coolant will begin to leak out. It can be tough to see clearly whats going on in this area well enough to pinpoint the exact source of the leak so it may take a bit of time to find it. Often with an intake gasket leak the coolant will puddle on top of the block then drip down the rear side of the engine and drip off of the pan or transmission bell housing. Hope this helps you find your problem!

Leaking coolant from pipe behind throttle body..

Look for a loose water or coolant hose .
Re tighten it and you will be OK .
If the problem is that it leaks the engine gasket then you may need to reinstall new gasket but this involves a lot of work.
A good light and a good mirror is what you need to see better where the leak is coming from .

Im having a problem with my 2003 Chevy Malibu leaking coolant. What do I do? What do I check? I have no idea where its coming from. I can drive and when I park the car it starts to pour out coolant. I took...

actually it is not good idea to replace your coolant by water only you shoul full your coolant system 50/50 mixture coolant and water because coolant has uniqe smell and color so easier to identified leaks.
first check your oil condition and coolant reservior for any coolont oil mixture for figure out head gaskets condition if you have any oil coolant mixture in oil or coolant you have a blown head gaskets this will send you to mechanic if everthing looks clear then go front driver side bottom of radiator and open the drain **** (make sure car is cool and put container under because coolant is toxic and mess up your drive way )open reservior tab too and drain all the water close back drain **** probably your vehicle prefer dexcool(red color)
fill 3 qt dexcool then water or just buy ready mix run the engine with reservior tab open and check coolont level add more if necesery suquize collont hoses for air inside when engine start hit up close reservior tab. on passanger side front of the engine has a coolant drain plug open with number 8 wrench untill you see the coolant come out( bleed the system for air) make this several times turn on your heat too and bleed again and watch your upper and lover hoses for any visible leaks fallow small coolant lines like under throttle body check thermostat housing under throttle body on 3.4l engines check under radiator if your pressure cab dosen't look good get a new pressure cab .shut of the car and check for leaks once you find out where is leak from easy to fix it.
