1998 chevy cavalier

I have a problem with the power windows. If i engage the power window switches in window will go up or down about 1/4 of the way and if I wait ten minutes the windows will go down a little more. Is my problem with the switch console or do I have other problems? Please advise.

Its probably not the switch it could be the window motor or the regulator

Why 1998 cavalier passenger window won't go down

Can you provide more information? Does it make noise at all? Do all the other functions in that door work? Do all the other windows roll down and up?

If it's making a noise, that could be a faulty motor or stripped drive component. If it isn't making any noise, it could be a fuse or that particular switch. If all the other windows work, I would suspect the switch, since the motors are usually grouped on a fuse. You'd have to look at your fuse panel to see if each one has it's own.

If the motor and regulator both work fine or sound like they are engaging when your try to raise the window, but you hear nothing when you try to lower the window then I think it is a pretty safe bet to say your switch is bad.

Power windows quit replaced fuse under hood replaced fuse inside still have no power windows

#1 so many people make the mistake of pressing the window lock switch on the drivers master window switch, double check to be sure it is not engaged. If that is not the problem you can pop the master switch out with a small flat tipped screw driver & check for power with a test light. If power is going to the switch & the windows still won't work, replace the master switch. good luck
