if it runs high when you first start it then mellows out,, theirs no problem , all of our chevys do that.... but if its sputtering or you hear a quiet popping noise check spark plugs

If the engine has Throttle body Injection TBI, I believe there is an idle speed module on the side of the throttle body which may be bad. Try unplugging the module and see if the idle changes.

SOURCE: Fuel pump constantly runs
sounds like you haven't got the right relay or the replacement has failed. pull one relay at a time and go back to the rear of the vehicle and listen for the pump. make sure the key is on when you do the test.

SOURCE: idle out of control.
check all your vacuum hoses and the throttle body itself for a vacuum leaks if the hoses replace as nessasary if to check for throttle body get can of carb cleaner and spray around base of throttle body and sides not in it if idle raises you have a vacuum leak goto a good parts store and ask for a rebuild kit don't goto auto zone or advance they don't carry them
