SOURCE: Headlights, high beams

No as a rule they don't fail at the same time, in fact it is unusual for the hi beam to fail ever, the problem is most likely in the turn signal/multifunction switch, this does cause your problem, have seen it many times.

SOURCE: How to replace high/low beam switch on 2004 Ford Focus LX?

Should be fairly easy. Make sure to disconnect the positive battery cable. Remove the cover from around the column behind the steering wheel. Should take a star driver to remove the screws holding the cover together. Once the screws are removed pop the cover apart and you will see the multifunction switch on the column, should have two to three screws holding it to the column remove the screws and it should come out pretty easy replace with new one and put back together.

Well it's hard to tell you anything as you did'nt call off the make year and model. the answer changes from one model year to another a 1935 model will be way different than a 1999. Most of the modern cheveys the combiantio switch is Bad 70's - 80's the dimmer switch is bad. the old ones have lots of problems with the floor switchs and the headlight switches but floor switches ended in the late 70's as they started putting relays and better everything in the more modern cars.

Why wont the headlights won't go on

It can have a bad headlight switch, but most often it is a bad high beam switch on the floor.

Turn on the headlights and press the high-beam switch off and on a few times, if the headlights flash, flicker, or start working again then replace the high-beam/dimmer switch.

Sounds like your switch on the column is broken. It happened to me before. I didn't feel like taking the whole steering column apart so I traced the wires from the headlights and hooked up one of those old floor mount clickers. They still sell new ones at the auto parts store and you can screw them to the floor where you want. You'll need a couple of those clamp on T wire connectors. The hardest part was tracing the wires. And as long as you don't cut the factory wires, your factory high beam indicator should still work.

No low beams

Your switch down on the floor board has probalbly gone bad on you. The switch is the one that you press with your foot to go to high beams or low beams. This switch is easy to replace and cheap to purchase. You can change it out in just a mater of minutes. Good luck , and let me know the outcome. Thanks of using this site. Feel free to inquire more if need be.

The headlights are stuck on high beam.

pull on the signal lever toward you (ceter position). the signal lever controls the head lights either high beam or low beam. if you pull on the signal lever toward you again, you will have high beam temporarily. and if you push the signal lever towards the front, you will have the high beam locked.
