Question about 1991 Toyota Pickup

1 Answer

Idle Rpm Too High.

I have a '91 Toyota pickup Truck with 22re engine and manual stick. Right now the idle rpm is too high. I adjusted it to the lowest possible setting by turning clockwise, but the idle rpm is still high. I took apart the idle air control valve to clean it, however it didn't fix the problem either. After my car heats up and I approach the stop sign, there is a problem. When I press the break, the rpm keeps rapidly fluctuating between high and low. What could be the problem? I would be grateful if anyone had any ideas.

I cleaned the throttle body already and changed the pcv valve too. It did not fix the problem.

A high idle is caused by either a massive vacuum leak or a sticking idle speed control valve. I would think you have a vacuum leak, use a can of carb spray and shot around the top[ of the engine, if you hit a leak the engine will sound different, repair as needed.

SOURCE: I HAVE 91 22RE PICKUP,STARTS GOOD COLD,HAVE TO

This sounds like you may have conflicting information being sent to the computer. Change your coolant temp sensor. If this is reading improperly, the vehicle will contniue to trigger the cold start circuit and cause the truck to run rich while hot, resulting in poor economy. Any of this sound familiar? Let me know if you need anything further. Glad to help!

What is the factory Idle rpm for 22re efi engine

I've seen from 500 to 1500 RPM in all the manuals I've been through, depending on the year and application (truck/car). In personal experience, 650-800 RPM is acceptable warm operation range. This will also depend on elevation. Will go up to 1200-1500 RPM for cold starting. I live at about 2000ft and my '86 Pickup 22RE idles at 725-750 like a top after about a 3-4 min warm up @ 1250 RPM if it's cold (<45ish).

clean out the throttle body if did nit do it other than that if you used the same old MAF or mass air flow adjust it why it was set for the old condition truck engine also there is a idle up on the throttle body make sure that gasket o ring are not torn then find the idle control its either a black knob or white adjust the idle setting and you will be good again

Sounds like you have a vacuum leak somewhere. There may be a stop adjustment on the throttle body, but usually high idles are due to unmetered air entering the system.

1990 toyota 22re high idle and surge between shifting

You have extra air leaking into the intake manifold that mimicks a throttle that is open further than it really is. Check for vacuum leaks.

1995 toyota pickup, surging at around 2000 rpms

Is the check engine light on?

A major cause of surging is either air leaks between the air flow meter and the engine intake manifold, or a bad or mis-adjusted throttle position sensor.

91 Toyota 22re sputters around 2500rpms

your throttle position sensor might me bad or out of adjustment. if it is out of adjustment then it can misfire all the way up to 3500 rpm.
i had a friend that had a miss fire at 2500 rpm. i adjusted the tpss right and the misfire went away. Check for engine codes by jumping TE1 and E1.
Your fuel filter may be dirty and restricting fuel to your injectors.
have your fuel pressure checked.
