My 2004 trailblazer doesn't want to crank only after I put gas in it. I thought it may be the fuel pump, but now it trys to stay running after I switch it off. What in the world c an this be?

Could be a bad fuel pressure regulator. Doesn't start because you lost fuel pressure. Stays running because the regulator is still dumping fuel directly in the intake plenum because of pressure. It is in front on the drivers side. Pull the vacuum hose, if it is wet and/or smells of gas. Replace it.

How to install fuel pressure regulator 2004 trailblazer

Yes you need to relieve the pressure on the system before you remover the old regulator. There is a Schrader valve in the fuel rail (I think on the left side) it's covered by a black plastic cap that will un- screw) it's just like a valve stem on a tire only bigger. You can release the pressure by depressing the valve with a small Phillips screwdriver but make sure you put a rag over it and don't stick you face near by, there is something like 70 psi there...or should be. As for tools, It's just a spring clip that retains the regulator, and an o-ring to seal it. The retainer should pop off using a flat blade screw drive to pry with. Again, cover it with a rag so it doesn't disappear when it pops off. Make sure you replace the o-ring. If all of this sounds like Greek or if you plan on doing more of your own work you might want to think about buying a manual from your local parts house.

DO NOT go back to this ripoff artist, he either doesn't know what he doing or is taking you for a ride.
Misfires are usually caused by bad spark plugs or coil packs. Find another mechanic.

Have an 2004 4.7 V8 Dodge Dakota truck. Truck had no fuel pressure on arrival. After installing 2 new pumps still only had 20lbs pressure. I did not install the complete pump assembly with the regulator...

This is a returnees fuel system. As you mentioned the fuel pressure is regulated at the fuel pump module. If you don't have pressure after replacing the pump and you did not replace the module and you installed two pumps already than the problem is likely the regulator in the module. Replace the whole assembly!

Overreving with no power and excessive gas consumption air filter cleaned map sensor replaced fuel pump and filter

usually caused by busted diaphram in fuel pressure regulator allowing fuel to be drawn thru regulator directly to intake manifold. Pull vacuum line off regulator, plug line with golf tee, start car and watch to see if gas comes out of regulator. If yes, turn off car, replace regulator. The regulator sits near the fuel rail on the top of the engine as shown below. I will paste replacement instructions below from autozone.com in case you need to replace the regulator. Please let me know if you have any questions.

The truck starts good when it is cold and when it is warmed up it turns over a while before starting. some one told me it might be a fuel vacuum pump.

Sounds like you have fuel pressure bleeding off. Leaking fuel pressure regulators are really common on these. Fuel pumps can also cause this to happen. The first thing I would do is check fuel pressure. If it doesn't hold pressure than its leaking out the regulator or the check valve in the pump is bad.

No fuel pressure put in a new fuel pump assembly and i still have the same problem wont stay running

Did you actually verify the fuel pressure at the fuel rail? If so, there are some other things to check, fuel filter, fuel rail pressure regulator and an obstructed fuel line.
