SOURCE: engine stalling out while driving

It could be that your fuel injection system is failing, try putting some fuel injection cleaner (gas additive) into your gas tank, you should notice a difference after the first full tank. If not it will be time to get your system checked-out at a garage.

SOURCE: my check engine light just came on. I own a 1997

Before an answer can be attempted, you'll have to know what the DTC's are associated with the check engine light. Take the vehicle to your local auto parts and see if they offer free check engine light testing. Many chains do offer this as a free service. They can also tell you the likely cause of the code.

SOURCE: check engine light is on

Locate the airfilter box. It is most likely on your right hand side when you open the hood. Once you locate the box which is pretty hard to miss you follow the large hosing that runs from the box to the engine. This box filters the air that your engine breaths to run. The sensor is located somewhere on the hose usually closer to the box. Check that it is not lose our falling out. If not your might want to remove the box and clean the sensor or see if it needs replacing. Box is easy to remove and replace.

Look on the intake manifold on the drivers side of the engine. It should be cast into the manifold.

My car died, now wont start what could be the problem. Its a 1997 pontiac sunfire.

If it is cranking and won't start, it could be many things. Check to see if your engine is getting fuel. If it is doing nothing, check the battery and the starter. Make sure your fuel pump is kicking on. You can also spray engine starter in the intake. If it starts and dies, you have a fuel problem. Check for fuses and relays to. Try all the simple test first. It will save you time and money. If car is getting fuel, it is probably a problem with the ignition system. The best way to look is to have your car coded. This test will lead you to the right path. Hope this helps.

Sure sounds like the engine has a failed bearing, most likely a rod bearing, the engine will need to be pulled out and repaired or replaced depending on how much damage you have done driving it.
