Question about 2004 Pontiac Montana

1 Answer

Driver's window stops coming up half way up.

My driver's window goes down like normal and starts up as normal. About half way up, the window seems to stick and stops. It will go up if I pull on it. I have replaced the motor and had the same results. Any suggestions that I could try?

When you pull up does it move easily or is it fairly stiff? If it moves easily than its possible the regulator is bad ( the part the motor attaches to). Let me know if you have any questions and I'll do my best to answer them. Thank you for using FixYa.com!

Try this. Get a can of silicone spray from your local parts store. Spray the rubber areas that the window rides up and down in liberally. You can do this without pulling the door panel, the window just needs to be all the way down. The straw that comes with the can will help spray the parts that are in the door. If this helps than is the rubber liners in the tracks starting to deteriorate. I have this issue with my saturn, i just apply the silicone spray every once and a while and everything has worked fine for the 4-5 years I have owned it.

On a side note, if you live in the snow belt (or what used to be the snow belt), spray a rag with the silicone spray and wipe down all the door seals. This will prevent the doors from freezing shut after running through a car wash.

I have a 1999 Pontiac Grand Prix gtp . The driver window goes down but won't come back up . None of the other windows does anything . What could be the problem ?

All four windows get power and ground thru the driver switch.
So I would start by checking the driver switch with a meter or test light.

Before you replace anything, inspect the connector pins in both the driver's door switch and the passenger door switch. If you don't find any problem with these connector pins, replace the driver's door control switch.

I purchased a 98 chevy lumina sedan about 6 yrs ago. at that time, the driver's side power window would only go down about half way, at the half way mark, it would continue to "try" to go...

The widow regulator is bad. I believe yours is set up on a gear system. there is a long band that is plastic, of course that will lose teeth. The reason it stops. These are not hard to replace. remove the door panel. You will see the regulator and the track. You will need some tools and a drill to remove rivets. The track will pull out, then slide the new one in. you may have to remove the window to do this. Shop rate is 1 hour + materials.

WHEN I ROLL UP THE DRIVER FRONT WINDOW IT GOES UP THEN ROLLS HALF WAY DOWN BY ITSELF

Hi there,

If manual window winder

Your driver's window glass may have come off the regulator mechanism.

If electric window control

The glass may have detached from the regulator or the regulator cable has unwound itself off the mechanism (ie tension during upward motion, but loose when motor stops winding).

Your driver's door panel will need to be removed to inspect your window regulator operation.

2005 equinox left front window some times will go up and down , however most times times it seems to stick won't go up or down unless you help it to start moving. Should you stop it half way it seems to...

I have a similar problem with the same window. The window doesn't stop moving but it tilts forward until it won't close properly leaving a 1 inch gap between the top left corner of the window and the door frame from the perspective of sitting in the drivers seat. I had the motor and regulator replaced but to no avail.
I took off the door panel, everything looked fine. Took off all the weather strips and the driver side mirror. Behind the mirror there is the top portion of the metal guide the edge of the window rides up and down. it was partially cracked and bulged out beneath the crack. I gently pounded it back in and cleaned out the guides on both sides with window cleaner and WD-40. The issue will not be completely fixed until I replace the metal guide but it runs much smoother now.
