SOURCE: 99 Saturn SL 1 stall on startup

I'm not sure what I did, but after I had cleaned out the throttle body (I'm sure thats not what did it, since it was pretty clean to begin with) and took it for a drive it was jerking alot and the check engine light had come on, I took another look and seen I had not plugged back in a sensor thing (I assume thats what it was LOL) which after plugging back in fixed the check engine light and the jerking. As for the stall out on start up thats gone and replaced with a new problem. When I start the car now it roars to life and the rpm thingy jumps up to 3000 and slowly works its way back down to 1500 which is higher than it ran before I fiddled with the throttle body. I'm assuming I bumped something while putting it back together. also when i put it in park or slow down alot it jumps way up as well. So no more startup problems now I have a gas guzzling problem LOL. Is this going to hurt my car any or am I simply burning up more gas than needed and nothing more?

SOURCE: ford f-150 will crank but not start or stay running

Look on the throttle body for a little cylinder with an electrical connector on it. Use the handle of screwdriver to give that a few whacks while someone starts the engine after it starts, give a few more whacks. Engine running now? Replace the Intake Air Control motor. or IAC.

If it's been sitting for that long, maybe it needs FRESH gas in the fuel system,, or maybe some critters chewed up some wires under the hood..... Could be a few things

1989 tracker. hard to start when cold but starts fine when warm.

89 has the old stand alone spark distributor.
the ECU is spark free, (no player here)
so here is the list for this engine 1.3 or 1.6L
the 1.3 has a carb. (last one) and is NOT EFI ,
you never said which engine it has. so ill guess at the 1.6L
This engine will have hard starting for the fooling reasons.
we dont guess at it we just do the tests.
  • Bad fuel.
  • Never tunedup this decade or every 60,000 miles per opr. guide.
  • low engine compression 150 good, if all are very low the cam timing belt slipped., (they all do , ignored) and is 60k service point.
  • CEL dead key on, bad ECU or lamp bad.
  • CEL glowing running, its telling you what is wrong, get the flash codes (DTC's)
  • Too high fuel pressure. (bad regulator in front of TB)
  • ECT bad. the 2 pin engine coolant temp sensor is bad. test it.
  • The injector leaks in the throttle body (look with eyes)
  • You find that adding 5-10% throttle cranking makes it more easy that is a bad, IAC valve, the valve at the base of the throttle body is stuck closed and kills all cold start air supply. making cold starts very hard, unless tricked with right foot. yes?
  • when any gas engine fails to start cold, i check for too much or too little starting fuel. and for very good spark.
  • Good engine, good spark the good fueling, there are tests for each, ASK?

1991 dodge 150 new fuel pump 30,000 miles ago. Has been setting for 4yrs. Truck runs for a few seconds if you pour gas into it but wont stay running. Have been told not good for this system to set for that...

the injectors may have clogged--especially if the gas was 4 years old. You will need fresh gas and probably need to clean out the injectors. Loosen the gas line to the throttle body to make sure you are getting fuel pressure. Then, look into the barrel while cranking to see if the injectors are firing. If they will not fire, replace them. Let me know if you have questions.

After driving the truck will not start unless the

try to clean the throttle body with a carb and choke cleaner using a tooth brush to help you out. it sounds like your not getting enough air. also get a injector cleaning. or run a few (2)bottles of fuel injector cleaner in a full tank of fuel.

Listen carefuly fir buzzing when you turn the key on. The fuel pump should run for 2 seconds. Then it should rin during crabking. if the car starts with starting fluid, it tells me the fuel pump is not running. Cause - bad pump, bad fuel pump relay (left side of Instrument panel), or tripped inertia switch in trunk.
