i thanks for your solution, the car has been on a diagnostics 3 times and every time it brings up a new fault . it was put on the diagnostics this morning and it bought up a fault with the fuel system. there was a fuel leak and it needed a new fuel line which was put on there today. the light went of all day and then the light came back on and started misfiring again.

hi thanks for response its already had a new crank sensor thats what the diagnostic read 1st time it came on. what a nightmare of a car. everytime a fault comes up its fixed and then straight away the light comes back on and theres another fault. will try a coil pack and will try new injectors aswell. hopefully 1 of them 2 will solve the annoying problem. once fixed time to get rid i think thanks for all your comments.

It sounds like the engine is running in safe mode to stop you from causing further damage to the engine. Take it to a garage with a diagnostic machine and that way you will find out precisely whats wrong with it.

however...shop around as the price of diagnostic help varies dramatically depending on where you look.

hmm, misfiring could be caused by a miriad of things, from the crank sensor needing replaced to a faulty fuel injector and everything inbetween....

Can you list the faults you have had diagnosed so far and whether or not they were fixed please?.

  • philzee Oct 27, 2008

it may be the case that the problem isnt the engine but the ECU itself. It's the ECU that gets the info from the sensors and acts accordingly. If the ECU is getting false positives it will change the settings etc to compensate and the car will act as though there is a fault when there is none.

It may be beneficial to you to get the ECU itself checked out to save you spending more ony on a problem which may not be there

there must be a switch on the actual light fitting to set it to 1 always on , 2 always off , 3 on when door opens , check the switch position

Polo gti battery light wont start

Sounds like your alternator is not working, if you can get the engine running and have access to a volt meter check the voltage on the battery terminals, With the engine running you should see in excess of 13V

1997 Chevrolet Suburban Check engine light soon is on

a Scan Tool will read your codes. even if the light is off it puts codes in history so they still can be pulled up for diagnostics. I would start there, You can get it done for free at AutoZone,CarQuest etc.

My suburban with 4l60e wont shift out of 2nd gear. when you put it in drive, it does fine til time to go into 3rd. it seems to just go into neutral, letting the rpms fly so i just put it in 2nd gear and...

The check engine light should be on. With a scanner pull the transmission control codes. and follow up on their leads speed sensers ( thiers 3 and shift soliods ( thiers 4) the connectors and the wires and more likly to be a problem than hard parts as this transmission is thris on up shifteed sllectonically

I drive a 2003 VW GTI. Theres a high rev sound after 3rd gear. Sounds like the engine is high reving and gets louder when the car gets faster even when shifting into a higher gear.

It needs rebuilding. The upper gear(s) are not locking in, so your likely wearing out your clutch when you drive fast. Get it rebuilt.

My 2002 Hyundai Accent goes into 1 gear smoothly, jerks into 2nd and goes into 3rd gear smoothly. Then goes back down into 3rd and 2nd gears smoothly and jerks back into 1st.

CHECK ENGINE light??? Whenever the 'CHECK ENGINE' (Service Engine Soon) light comes on, the ECU (Engine Control Unit) sets a Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC). These codes identify the particular engine management system which caused the light to come on.
You'll need to use/find an OBDII (On-Board Diagnostic) Scanner to retrieve any code which have been stored in the ECU computer. Afterward, we might be able to help you DIAGNOSE the problem and perhaps eventually fix the problem.

Car jerks on 1st & 2nd gears.

It sounds like you may have 1 or more bad motor mounts. I had the same thing happen in my 93 eclipse. The rubber collapsed and the motor would just **** back and forth and make the car bounce, but 3rd on up was fine. Check to see if any of the rubber mounts have deteriorated, and replace them soon or it can cause more damage, like broken flywheel bots and bent axles. Hope this helps :)

VW Polo GTI V Reg - Warning Light

Hi!  I believe that is the check engine light.  It means that there is some part of the engine that needs attention.  It can range from routine maintenance (a dirty filter for instance) to a serious problem.  You will have to take it to a dealer for them to diagnose the specific error using their diagnostic computer.
I'm not sure about the Polo but for several VW models the Check Engine Light goes on when the gas cap isn't on tight (there is a sensor that monitors tank pressure).  You may want to check that first.

Hope this helps.
